HTC One M8 in 2024 - When Android was fun!

If you remember the HTC One M8 and Sense UI, then you remember when each Android manufacturer added a little flavor to their software. It was a very different time, and in a lot of ways, I miss it.

HTC's Sense clock was one of the most iconic visual identifiers in all of smartphones. Almost as immediately recognizable as the iPhone homescreen

I remember a friend of mine having this HTC or a similar model back in the day with that flip case with the dot matrix window. It was always so cool seeing a rain cloud or whatever weather widget pop through the cover.

I had the HTC Desire S and there was nothing like the Themes for Sense 5.0. Androids were definitely fun back then. Now they're just better. I still use old school themes from 10+ years back. I've created the Sense Clock from scratch using KWGT and use the older wallpapers and icons. I've gotta couple homescreen setups I've screen-shot.

Man I loved HTC m7 m8 m9 just awesome design.i used to love the roms you could change on earlier Android HTC phones anyone older like me will remember the fun of changing roms😊

I desperately miss the rounded navigation bar at the bottom most among other things like the awesome clock/weather widget. I miss sense UI so much

Finest phone ever made accounting for the time period it was released in. Nothing else was really close. Honorable mention for the Galaxy Note 2.

I had the old M8 and M9, as well as the windows phone version of the M8 back in the day. I always thought they made the best feeling phones. Every HTC phone I had from the G1 onwards just felt premium

Was around early Android time and HTC was a name that stuck with me as I was articles with people that had HTC devices who got shot but got saved by their phones and I thought they must be well made to be able to withstand that.
On the topic of old Android I was on Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 for a while as I liked the dark backgrounds of the Holo UI but sadly they went light theme starting with Jellybean (4.1~4.3).
For me pre Android 5 Lollipop had more personality across brands for better or for worse since some heavy UI skins did not help performance and that's what got me to custom roms in the past but haven't been doing that for a few years now since Android got somewhere closer to the clean stock Android + few useful (sometimes debatably so) features from a manufacturer + bugs (looking at you Xiaomi and your MIUI).
If I had to use an old version of Android for fun to play games from about 2010~2011 it would likely be ICS 4.0 for me.

5:44 same because all of the phones I owned or have used are old and or cheap so I'm used to the bezels my family likes to keep their phones as long as possible and when we get a new phone we get a cheap one like my samsung galaxy a13 5g

Till today, this is my favourite design for an Android device. It's so beautiful with that gunmetal colour and the brushed look wrapping around the whole phone thanks to the unibody design. Loved the size cause it fits perfectly in my hand and really loved the simpleness of the software too. Awesome phone 👌

Thank you! I’m so sick of phone reviewers bitch about bezels! A phone cannot be all screen, you have to have a border to hold the phone. I also agree that metal-bodied phones need to come back!

This phone was goated back in the day. It was my 2nd ever smartphone. I was an HTC fanboy for a while.

I just miss 16:9 screen ratios with squared off corners in general.

Great phone was built like a Vertu! I also had the M10 (headphone audio was great) and the U11 (still use it as backup and honestly a great phone). Never had the U12 plus, but honestly when I talked about my U11 nobody cared to even try an alternative to Samsung anymore. The U11 camera still beats many phones today btw
