Nationwide Baby Formula Recall Causes Panic For Some Parents

The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to use or buy certain powdered formula from Alimentum, Similac and EleCare, which are made by Abbott Nutrition, after four babies were hospitalized. It comes as parents were already facing a nationwide formula shortage due to surging demand and labor issues.

In the 30s and 40s, 80% of bottlefed babies were given canned evaporated (full fat) milk as formula.
Recipe: 13 ounces (1 can) evaporated milk, 19 ounces sterile water, 1 ounce Karo syrup (clear type).
Goat's milk was given to babies allergic to cow's milk.
Liquid baby vitamin drops (with iron) was given daily with this formula.
We turned out good.

Humans should not drink the milk from other species. Problem is, something that basic is difficult to stick with.

Just to be on the safe side when you mix powdered formula you should boil the water and keep the temperature of the mixture above 185°F for at least 30 seconds to pasteurize it before chilling to a drinkable temperature.

My sons was part of recall we just got our month supply right before recall so now I have 11 cans I can not use. Tried bringing them back to Krogers where I purchased them and they refussed to refund me.

My five month old was taking alimentum because of acid reflux after a while he refused to drink it because it stinks and it taste disgusting. So we put him on Similac spit up and my son is having eczema itchy episode tonight and something in my head said what if it’s the formula so I found this tonight and a few others stating similAc is being recalled and the codes to look out for. My son’s left over Alimentum cans are ones that have been recalled because it has the codes to look out for and also the new cans he has with similAc spit up but that has not been recalled yet. This is alarming and this makes me want to look for alternative natural substitutes like hemp milk and goat milk. We need to normalize giving children more natural approaches and not ridicule parents for not giving their babies these toxic formulas that are poisonous

Does this affect the Costco brand Kirkland Signature formula? I believe they’re made by the same company that produces Similac.

WIC--- Will not replace the formula.. Many PA Citizens have WIC Cards but cannot buy any formula because the state of PA will not Substitute the Similac Formula(this brand is recalled and not in any stores)...there were 20 left to purchase by 02/28/2022--- now have new month on the WIC card to buy for March but still WIC says no substitutes so we can not buy any Formula brand on WIC..
