Went swimming in a lake as a kid and saw one of those big black and white horse flies. A kid was resurfacing, and it instantly landed on his face and bit him, making him scream. I never went in that water after witnessing that

I got bit by a horsefly once when I was about 7, I screamed and sprinted almost around the whole lake we were at. After that I never wanted to walk past the lake again.. It took 3 days to fully heal

I was climbing a tree when i was about 10yrs old and a giant horsefly flew directly into my armpit and bit me. It was so painful that it caused me to lose my grip and fall about 5 metres onto grass.
It's amazing i didn't break any bones but i have hated those flys ever since.

Man that shit probably hurt so bad. I’ve been bitten and stung by all the normally encountered bugs in the US I’d say and the Horsefly has to be up there with the most unpleasant. Not even any venom or anything. Just pain 😂

Females do this when they are about to lay eggs. Similar to mosquitoes. Horsefly’s are basically giant mosquitoes

How are you not screaming in pain? This is not a bee with a surgical stinger, this is a diminutive monster with huge mandibles that dig into your flesh and the bite is extremely painful.
