Landscape Photography - Ethereal Landscapes at Crosby Beach
Landscape Photography with a difference. This week I decided in a whim to speed off to Liverpool's Crosby Beach to photograph the Antony Gormley sculptures but with a difference. Antony Gormley sculptures have been photographed to death, but that should never put you off. There is always a way to make your shot different. It might be the light that's different, the weather or simply a different viewpoint / composition. Just because something has been photographed by every man and his dog should never be an excuse for you not to bother!
Name any tourist attraction in London or around the world for that matter that hasn't already been photographed! To me it just makes it more of a challenge. Think outside the box? Photograph at different times. What about at night? Early morning? you get my drift.
Ethereal Landscapes
My plan was to head to the beach when the tide was on it's way out. When the seas were rough and especially when there was drama in the sky. All this needed to be right to enable me to take the perfect etheral Landscape picture of the Antony Gormley sculptures.
As we all know, things down't always to go to plan. Well it certainly didn't today! An hour after leaving home the amazing dramatic sky's completely didsappeared. They were replaced with dull grey skys. Even worse the handbrake on the car turned into a rain switch. The very second I applied it the heavens opened, could it possibly get any worse?
It did. The tide was on it's way out but it just went out a little too far to get the shot I had planned to get. I've never been to Crosby Beach before, the tide turning element was just a guess!
My original plan was to shoot an ethereal landscape shot with a 400mm lens. The reason for this was to enable me to isolate a couple of statues, shoot them from a distance, zooming in to enable the lens to compress them together. I wanted both of the statues in the water and at knee / waist hight.
Clearly this was never going to happen. Oh well, guess I'll save that for another day.
Not to be out-done I worked hard to grab what I could. More often than not that's just what you have to do...
