it is 2022 March and even these days stupid, random, in-background windows updates can all of a sudden screw up a laptop by disabling the touchpad. Not only doing that but making it as if it doesn't even exist among the hardware components. The step in regedit puls then manually enabling the touchpad after a restart solved it for me on an ASUS.
I find it mind boggling that even today Microsoft is allowed to push a potentially hardware disabling update that I can't turn off.

Thank you so much. I have been trying all day, I even reset my computer, watched YouTube videos., , , , None worked. However, once I tried picking from list of devices, then restarted my computer..it worked. I went to the search box and was able to right click. It still didn't work until I clicked show keypad on toolbar. Then for some reason my cursor began to work. Thanks again.

Sometimes touch pad doesnt work because mouse right button us selected as primary, when left is selected touchpad works.
