Interesting. I never thought about that. We only have one 1year old (today is her bday) jersey heifer so still learning about grazing and cows in general. Thank you for the useful information!

As with all things agricultural, you are so dependent on the rain. I know your system does a great job making you as drought proof as possible, but at some point, doesn't it make sense to add some wells?
Not sure of the water table depth or expense there, but adding an inch or two after 30 or 40 days seems like it would allow you to control how much winter stockpile you have, right? Because you have great topsoil and leave everything covered, it would be nearly 100% absorbed and put right back into the aquifer. Other than the initial expense and some manpower, what's the downside?
