It's a real testament to everyone in this sketch that they committed so hard to something that was not only ridiculous but also clearly didn't land super hard.

"He is a smart face..." slays me. It's like he's channeling a reassuring childhood pep talk, from his mom.

Bill Hader talked about this sketch in the latest episode of The Rewatchables! Apparently it got zero laughs when they tried it out, but Lorne Michaels liked it so much so it made it to tv anyway.

"Let's shut these fuckers up, " Josh Brolin. Bro went out there and gave it everything for a mild chuckle at best. Legend.

I just saw Hader talking about this sketch. He said it bombed at the table read and bombed even worse at dress rehearsal, but Lorne Michaels loved it so instead of yanking it he moved it up to right after Weekend Update. Hader said the audience was so confused and silent and you could hear everything, even people in the audience whispering, "Whaaaat?" and gasps of non-approval.

I love Bill Hader's story on Norm's podcast about having the sketch bomb at dress and then when it was showtime, Brolin, knowing it's likely to bomb turn to Will and Bill and says "well.... let's shut these fuckers up"

Ok I know the entire audience was basically dead quiet for this entire sketch, but I absolutely love it. It's such a dumb, silly concept but every actor is giving it their all, Brolin's reactions are absolutely hilarious and the "he shot himself" at the end is such a dark, unexpected twist. I genuinely adore this sketch.

Apparently, I liked this a whole lot more than the audience that night.

This sketch is so stupid so why am I laughing so hard? I think it's because these actors are committed 100% to this ridiculousness.

This might just be the worst, most immature skit in SNL history... and I love it

You could hear a chair move on the floor it bombed so hard hahah. That was a great bit. I loved it.

I think this only works because it’s absolutely self-contained.

The audience not laughing and nobody cracking really makes it timeless to me

Gamora: "They call him Thanos."
Tony: "Oh you mean Fartface?"

For some reason, Brolin standing up for himself with "no, HE is a smart face!" made me laugh really really hard.

This feels like a Kids In the Hall skit. Lol

Anyone here from the Ted Danson podcast? This is wild, it's like they were trying to write the most childish sketch and then cap it off with a suicide joke. One of those skits which are hilarious in retrospect and because it simply exists!

The fact that Josh Brolin is willing to do a sketch like this and has the confidence to allow himself to be the butt of a joke proves how cool he really is. He’s the anti Steven Segal.

I can imagine ending an SNL sketch is a pretty challenging task considering how many great bits fizzle out and ruin the pacing. Having this end with "he just shot himself" is the best, most abrupt method and it fits the vibe perfectly.

The selling of this sketch by the three actors is legendary. Two things really make this special. The indignant look on Forte's face as he tries to stop the nickname and Brolin clutching the briefcase as he cries.

I fucking love this sketch. The fact that it bombed but they still committed 100% makes it even funnier
