In this video I discuss how the Signal foundation developed PQXDH (Post Quantum Extended Diffie Helmen) an encryption algorithm that is hardened against quantum computer cracking and how this protocol will likely make it's way into more messaging apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Skype.

Now, if only I could get anyone else to use Signal lol

I'm saying this as someone who has developed encrypted networking tools and messengers for a living... I'm dubious of whether they can actually prove it's quantum ready. But if they did it, that's great news.

Can't wait to get personal quantum computers so I can run even worse and poorly optimized code in everything

Cooling is important in quantum computing. From the physics perspective: the quanta vibrate, just slightly, but that's enough to switch state randomly. The solution is to slow down that vibration to minimum by applying some extreme cooling.

People are looking over the most important aspect of quantum computers. They may help us finally get a shot at those pesky NP-Complete problems, like Travelling Salesman, knapsack, etc. that have held back real-world optimisations for a long time, since they require analysing exponential states to find the best solution.

Those 443-1000 qb reports are about 1/40th of that considering the overwhelming noise and static hurdles they have yet to overcome. Otherwise, all of that encryption would be broken within a single 20 day window. While it's a matter of time, that timeframe isn't calculated within current capabilities of production, fabrication, and containment issues.

6:38 had me questioning the state of my computer. Either way, very nice video.

Just a reminder that those calculations Mental is talking about are done on idealised qubits, or logical cubits. To build 100 error-corrected logical qubits, it is estimated that over 100 000 physical qubits are required.

So with IBM's 1000 physical qubits they have about one logical qubit. Slow and steady!

WOW!
I made the cosmic Gigachad on your thumbnail!
Feel pretty honored to see it here 🤣👍

The OpenBASED shirt is hella sick, especially since Lil B the Based God is from Berkeley.

Xenon(54Xe) is the gas/liquid used for cooling in a lot of semiconductor facilities. It is incredibly expensive, for around $300, 000/60cuft( or Q1 cylinder size) equivalent to a standard fire extinguisher. It is a noble gas, though it can undergo chemical reactions(the first noble gas to do so) allowing for a much more broad spectrum of applications, including radiation, thermodynamics, and temperature control. It’s boiling point is 165.1k(or -108.1*c) and it’s melting point is 161.4k( or -111.75*c). Lastly, I’ve been told by many colleagues that, “it’s more fun than N2O, no ‘hangover’ making it way more enjoyable.” I’ve never tried either, and don’t advocate someone should or shouldn’t, so, do with that information what you will. Cheers.

I'm starting to think cracking encryption will be one of the only things quantum computers will be good for

So what you're telling me is I need to invest in IBM because their quantum computers will basically be the centralized compute power of the future.

Awesome! Already got my family and friends using signal. This is good to hear.

If/When they crack the current E2E Encryption, do you think they'd tell you?

You nailed it at the end. It's irrelevant how secure your chat app is. The weak link is the device, and even more so, the meatsack that's using it. OpSec is the issue, not the protocol.

6:21 phone apps can be decompiled completely. Australia imposed a rule to hand up private keys and arrest anyone who discloses it.

Your mic started cracking up at the end and I got spooked

It’s a shame that Signal removed their messenger’s ability to handle regular SMS. It makes normie adoption a lot harder. Also, they’re not on F-Droid, which is a little suspicious.
