India: Probe into deadly train disaster ongoing, volunteers stand ready to support survivors
Показать описание
At least 288 people have died in India's worst rail crash in over two decades, after a passenger train went off the tracks and hit another one in an accident.
A preliminary investigation showed that the cause of the fatal train accident was the malfunction of the electronic interlocking system.
An Indian social worker from a non-governmental organization in Cuttack shared the hectic relief effort to prepare supplies for the survivors.
The accident occurred at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focusing on the modernization of the British colonial-era railroad network in India, which has become the world’s most populous country with 1.42 billion people.
Despite government efforts to improve rail safety, several hundred accidents occur every year on India’s railways, the largest train network under one management in the world.
