SHERWOOD FOREST WALK FEATURING EDWINSTOWE, BIRKLANDS AND THE MAJOR OAK

"Edwinstowe, Birklands and the Major Oak”
Filmed 24th April 2022
Post-production completed 10th May 2022

**Contains some swearing**

Well after my last film that briefly featured the Derbyshire hamlet of Robin Hood, I felt it was only right to make my next production in the home of the legendary outlaw, Sherwood Forest! This is the first of two films I’ve made in Sherwood Forest in 2022.

Filmed in the county of Nottinghamshire. Locations include Edwinstowe, Birklands, Budby South Forest and the Major Oak. This is the first film in Sherwood Forest.

Written, presented, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.

Special thanks to Brian Conduit, Nick Channer, Neil Coates, Dennis Kelsall, and Visit Nottinghamshire for their information used in my research for this film.

"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.

Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.

DISCLAIMER: Although I work hard to ensure all information is correct to the best of my knowledge, I am only featuring information I have found online and/or in books during my research when putting this film together, so I cannot guarantee that there are no mistakes or errors.

Many thanks and I hope you enjoy watching!

Edwinstowe was pleasant from what I recall. As mentioned before I just can't believe it was over 2 years since I filmed this. The time goes very quickly. Yes Sherwood Forest isn't far from where I live, but it's not somewhere I visit very much so this was a nice walk to film for a change. The Major Oak is amazing to see. Thanks as always Ffranc for watching 👍

Robin of Sherwood what a great TV series.

It looks like Edwinstowe is a pleasant village set in Nottinghamshire's Sherwood Forest area, Patrick. The bronze statue of Robin and Marian is very apt for the location. You had a real good afternoon, with the weather, and not too far from your home, as well. The forest itself looks a pleasant area to walk, and that very ancient oak tree is a spectacle. Most interesting to watch, together with the details about your camera, also. Many thanks for this showing. Patrick. Take care.

Hey Patrick loved the walk trough the forest ( Robin hood Robin hood riding through the glen lol). The big old oak tree reminds me of one that is in Canterbury by the river its got a very short fat trunk i forget how many years old it is, bet it could tell a few stories. I found your video very relaxing with your lovely music, now going to have a 10 mins cat nap to recharge my batteries to go out with my friends for dinner to celebrate my Birthday today. Have a good weekend best wishes Jean :)

I'm a bit late to comment this week Patrick. Sherwood forest used to run all the way up to Lincoln in its day. Sadly although still relatively large it's nowhere near the size that it was. I think you're right about robin hood never being filmed there. I do recall kevin costners waterfall scene being filmed along the pennine way though. Nice tranquil walk this time out so thanks for taking us along too. Glad you enjoyed your friends wedding, a bit of normality coming back. Look after yourself. ps that old robin hood series was fantastic

Liked your introductory clip. Looking very sunny. Not heard of Edwinstowe or Budby before, but interesting to learn more about areas. Some lovely scenes in your film. I noted the medieval music in keeping with the Robin Hood era. I think the lens cleaning worked well. Very clear pictures, but your camera certainly looked poorly all bandaged up! Much enjoyed your walk and that ancient tree.

I enjoy Sherwood Forest too, I feel there is something very special about being in a landscape that has essentially remained unchanged for thousands of years. A lovely film !

I have really enjoyed this video, Patrick. My word, that's a church of beautiful architecture in Edwinstowe. The walk through that part of Sherwood Forest looks lovely, and you chose a great day weather wise, for it. The old oak tree is stunning, being so ancient, too. Many thanks for this very pleasant walk.

It looks like your camera has seen better days Patrick, but it's still doing a great job, and so are you. What a nice sunny walk. Really enjoyed. Thanks, all the best.

I’m 35 now but used to go down to Edwinstowe in the late ‘90s during the summer holidays to my aunties and would regularly go to the forest, brought back good memories watching this. I live in Newcastle, I’ll have to have a drive down one weekend again in future. Brilliant channel mate, pleased I stumbled across it! 🙂

Another fine walk Patrick. We've passed Sherwood many times on our travels, but never visited it. Its 61 miles from us! I absolutely love that old oak tree, Ty once more Patrick! 😀

Fab video Patrick. I only live about 15 minutes drive from Edwinstowe but like you don’t visit Sherwood Forest as often as I should do. It’s a lovely walk around that forest isn’t and we often take the Major Oak for granted. People all over the world come to visit it thanks to the legend that is Robin Hood. There are some great woodland walks in and around the forest that’s for sure. Liking the DIY job on the camera and tripod. I must admit that I didn’t notice the smear on the lens on your last video so it certainly didn’t spoil the footage from the viewers perspective
