Don't leave food and water out, clean bbq grills, trash. You're attracting the coyotes in.

I can tell by the comments not many here even have a clue about coyotes. I lived with them for years in tenn. Keep your domestic animals in at night and do not chain your dog out.

Someone in the neighborhood is facilitating this by putting out food or allowing them to build dens in their oleanders, saw this happen in Sun City. The older couple were so happy to have a mother coyote and her 5 pups living their backyard.
I live at the foot of the mountain preserve and coyotes come into my yard all the time after they stopped by my neighbor who puts out food and water for them. It's all fun until someone's grandchild gets attacked

That shot of the group is an adult with pups that have not dispersed yet. Kinda unusual this late in the year. Might be because they're urban.
Coyotes are opportunists, but mostly cowardly opportunists. They might bluff an adult, but their instinct is not to risk injury. A debilitating injury of any kind to a coyote is a death sentence and that's hard wired into them.
If you're walking a small pet and encounter a coyote or a few coyotes, pick up your pet, stand your ground, even advance if they continue to threaten. Appear large, loud, and threatening. Don't leave small pets outside alone until the problem is cleaned up.
Speaking of which, AZGFD contracts specialists to address issues like this. Rest assured the numbers will dissipate and you'll never know why.
Coyotes are not wolves, not even close. Big AZ coyotes weigh maybe 35 pounds. I have dogs bigger than that and believe me, a kick to the ribs would send them into retreat. Stop being terrified of animals that are native to the area. Its not grizzly country.

Arcadia is a wealthy neighborhood, so NOW people are paying attention. This is what happens when a city completely mismanages a desert environment.

The craziest part of the story is the woman with $20, 000 of disposable income available to treat her pet’s injuries.

That was a momma with pups. If she is coming to people that means there is no food available in the wild for them.
Did you guys had any major land grab by developers near by that drove these poor animals out

Create an environment where the coyotes can meet their needs without entering the neighborhood-- they deserve a habitat too.

This is a family with pups. Clearly, some of these residents are feeding the animals intentionally or unwittingly. Eliminate nightime bird food, pet food, food scraps, and better secure garbage outdoors, which attracts vermin & coyotes will be gone.

There is an obvious imbalance in the ecosystem… Are any of the dogs in this neighborhood large enough to actually confront a coyote? Things like this happen from imbalance, and humans are the biggest instigators of imbalance.

They'll even play with your dog, to get him to follow after, to a more secluded place. Get a gun, and never ever borrow money, from a coyote.

I'm so glad the reporter mentioned "Arizona Fish and Wildlife." Otherwise it is impossible to know what state this is.

Coyotes in Arizona, just carry a Mossberg Shockwave when walking the dog.

We have the same problem around Seattle. A big reason this is happening is because of habitat loss. So many forests and enclosures being turned into parking lots and what not. So I read online for deterrents. One good way that has really worked in keeping coyotes as well as racoons away (and is harmless to pets) is putting rags soaked in ammonia around your property. This also stopped them from marking their territory with poop around our house. Keep your pets indoors! We've had 2 neighborhood cats killed (even after we told the owner).

We have the same problem with coyotes in Glendale, California. They are even living and breeding in a cemetary located in the heart of a residential neighborhood near my house. The local government does NOTHING. I am not advocating for killing the coyotes but how about pursuing population reduction through birth control measures?

$20, 000 in vet bills? I love my animals, but that's ridiculous.

The reason their numbers are increasing is that they aren't removed from human settlements the way they once were.

Don’t leave your pets outside unattended. Don’t leave food outside. The builders have stolen their homes and their habitat. Here in Florida we have bobcats, coyotes, alligators and all manner of wildlife because of greedy cities and developers. My neighborhood is an old Florida neighborhood and has become a sanctuary for all these creatures that have been displaced. We live in harmony.

This is crazy! WOW, I’m surprised this many are that active in such a busy area. The one on the roof is crazy.
