Popular Misquotes That Authors Never Wrote

This is a video I've wanted to make for some time, explaining how prevalent misquotes can be online and that with a little research you can spare yourself the trouble of misquoting authors' works. "We are all broken, that's how the light gets in," is not a Hemingway quote!

Moral of the story: Pinterest is a gateway drug to bad tattoos.

I think I need a tattoo quoting Imogen, "You should do a lot of research before getting a tattoo."

Yeah, this a problem. Mark Twain, Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill are the ones I’ve used, but then found out that they may or may not have been theirs. I’ll see if I can find some for you. Another great video. Thanks.

This sort of thing drives me crazy. I'll forgive the one apocryphal Oscar Wilde's last words quote ("Either these curtains go or I do...") because I would love to think that Oscar Wilde was witty to his dying breath, but to attribute an unknown quote to a famous author is a disservice to both whomever wrote the quote and whomever is the actual author of the quote (the ghost of Shakespeare: "They think I said what?!?")

Great video about a topic that ought to be addressed more than it is, so thank you for making it.

Not a literary lerson per se, but Yogi Berra is probably one of the most misquoted people of the 20th century. In his case though, it kind of makes him even more legendary.

I think people typically relate more to what the quotes saying than the material it came from when getting a tattoo. So unless they're intentionally trying to quote someone I don't know that a lot of people would mind it.

Good point tho, I would be annoyed personally if I found out I had gotten a misquote
