Thank you for time and commitment you have in contributing to the greater good.
Tried the things you suggested above but was still operating intermittently.
The solution in my case was to pry the motor retaining tabs apart (as there was carbon staining apparent through the translucent plastic end plate) blow out the deposit, gently clean up the tiny armature with a bit of fine emery paper, scrape the insulator with a fine blade, I only had brake cleaner available, so splashed a bit of that on, dried off with an airline and reassembled.
Now it functions perfectly.

Your videos are great! Very informative, I've been wanting to do this repair for a long time on my MK4 Jetta but was a little wary, but watching you preform the repair has given me a better sense of what I need to take on the project. My only concern is that where the lock cylinder meets the module is broken as well as there is no resistance when I turn my key.

You’ve helped me out immensely, time and time again. Still have my stateside 2004 Jetta AWP / 5 speed/ 231, 000 miles. Running like a dream. Thank you!

Thanks for my micro switch which arrived yesterday. All fitted and working great!! I need to get central locking switch working now. When I operate the close switch in vehicle all doors lock but the door I’ve recently fitted switch to locks and then re opens straight away??

WOW, this was extremely helpful in getting my driver door fixed. The way you walked through and explained every single part step-by-step could not have been done any better, and thank you for using an HD camera to film this so we can see the small parts, especially when it came to re-seating the T-bit back in to the black clip. Definitely one of the best walkthroughs I've seen on here.

My driver door doesn't recognize when it's open whatsoever and the old WD-40 trick didn't help at all, so my next step is taking it out and doing exactly this. Do you think it'd be best to re-solder all the contact points while it's open too, or is that not what causes the problem with the door not recognized as being open? My alarm has never gone off on me and and it locks and unlocks as well as arms the alarm using the key with no problems, but if I don't have to spend all that time and money on buying a solder gun for something that isn't the problem then would be a huge saver. Thanks again, keep up the great work!

Thanks mate. I removed the lock with a microswitch for the Škoda Octavia A5. It's a different lock, but it's the same micro switch. It does not have to open a lock like in your video, because it's outside the lock. I did not have such an electric cleaner, but I cleaned the contacts with fine sandpaper. Now the micro switch works normally.

Thank you, 1958, for the awesome video and very well detailed description on RENNLIST. I'm a visual guy, so I'd like to ask for a link to the video where you show how to remove the panel. You mentioned some wires get pulled, others you work around. Need to drill or grind rivets, then sheetmetal screws to keep things together. I'm confused. Mostly afraid to do it incorrectly and end up with a door with no panel. I know his is an old post but I'm hoping you have a link to a video for this... thanks, you rock. V.

Great vid! I just bought a VW T5 multivan today got home and realised the drivers door opens with the key fob but doesn't lock with the key fob. Its not a big problem I just use the key to lock it but I will certainly have a bash at fixing it after watching this. Thanks for the vid

Hi BMAC VAGS, very instructive and clear video. Like some others who have commented my door lock has the relevant microswitch riveted to the frame. What's your advice on how to take this one off for inspection (and where necessary repair or replacement) and more important put it back on in a way that it will function again?

BMAC VAGS You have produced an excellent in depth and clear tutorial on the subject . I only wish it had been around when I fixed my lock on a Touran. I bought a new lock at around £100.

The fact this video has 1 Million views just talks volumes about this poor door lock design!

Great video. I'm surprised how easy you made that seem, as long as someone is willing to out the time into it. I just bought a very ragged 1999 golf and it has a lot of projects needed. This might be one of them.

He knows what he's talking about. However, it is not necessary to remove all these parts to get that troublesome switch out. Just clip the wires and replace it without opening that delicate cover and separating all the mechanicals.

Thanks a million BMAC VAGS 100% i should have followed this DIY fix a year ago already but was just too lazy, now this was on a vw polo 2006 model. well i found the tiny 'T' shaped button on the micro switch broken into three pieces, but with a bit of Q-bond kit i managed to get it all together again. now my door is 100%
