How to use it?
- Tablet: just swallow it whole with half a glass of water.
It is best to take this medicine at fixed times. This will make you less likely to forget a dose.

When to use it?
Atenolol is part of a group of drugs called beta blockers. These reduce the workload on your heart and widen your blood vessels, causing your heart to beat slower and with less force. Therefore Atenolol can be used to treatA high blood pressure and several types of heart problems (like arrhytmias and angina pectoris).

What is the correct dosage?
The precise dose will depend on your specific indication of use, the side effect you might experience and the severity of your symptoms. Therefore always use the precise amount and frequency your doctor prescribed you.
- However, in adults, most doctors will start with an initial dose of 25 mg 1×/day. If necessary this can be further increased up to a dose of 50–100 mg 1×/day.

What are the side-effects?
- Common (1–10%): slow heart rate, coldness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, fatigue and excessive sweating.
Uncommon (0.1–1%): hallucinations, psychoses, confusion, mood changes, depression, nightmares, sleep disturbances, anxiety, headache, dizziness and paraesthesia.
Rare (0.01–0.1%): Libido disorder.

Safety:
- The first days of using atenolol it can lead to dizziness or fatigue. Please do not drive while experiencing this.
Furthermore, alcohol widens the blood vessels. It can therefore increase the side effect of dizziness at the beginning of treatment. Try drinking alcohol in moderation first so you can estimate its effects.
Atenolol can also have interactions with other drugs you are taking. Always discuss this with your prescribing doctor.
Lastly, Atenolol could be dangerous for pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding. Therefore always discuss this with your personal doctor.

This message is for the doctor in this video. I have been taking 12.5 MG Atenolol for many years to control my blood pressure that typically is about 102/63. However as of today 7/11/23, I checked my BP and it's 155/89 for no apparent reason, and I'm not under any stress whatsoever and lead a very active life working full time 5 days/week 40hrs/week. As of today, I decided in increase the dosage to a full 25Mg tablet and see if that will help lower my BP, and if not, I plan to double it to 50MG/day. What are your thoughts on this?
