I guess it should be noted that the shortened version of the name Zaporozhetz ("Zapor", that is) is the Russian and Ukrainian word for constipation. They were called that by owners consciously and on purpose.

Thanks for this, it's very interesting! I've been a car buff all my life, but knew little about ZAZ. I have only ever seen one, a 966A in northern Italy in about 1982. Greetings from Stockholm

So really heart-catching, such a history`s heritage for the automobile`s industry . Yes these every ZAZ 968 became an icon for worldwide`s instant recognizment . Warm hellos from Argentina, in our country only was imported the Tawria 1103 aroun years 1991 til 1997

An interesting story. These were never imported to Finland. We had Ladas which at the time were very popular even though western cars were freely available too, and a smaller number of Moskviches.

My great-great-grandfather was a senior manager at the AJ Koop factory in the WWI-era, after it was merged into the "Urozhay" ("Harvest") farm machinery conglomerate but before the Russian Revolution. All I can tell you about Koop personally is that he was Mennonite and he died in the typhus epidemic in 1920, aged 82.

i had a Tavria about 15 years ago, and its not bad car, very economical (10L/100km of liquid gas) good power and good driving, only rusted very fast, but it was normal in Polish cars "Polonez", "Maluch", "Fiat 125" and Russian Ladas too - painting every year after winter was normal procedure then ;)

I saw a few Tavrias in Asuncion (Paraguay) but just on the hatchback version, I never saw the other versions. These cars were sold in Paraguay in the first years of 1990s, now they are very very hard to find...

The Tavria looks exactly like a Lada Samara.

Tavria was never called "Devyatka". That was nickname for VAZ 2109 or simply 9th model of Zhiguli/Lada. And "nine" in russian is "devyat" or "devyatka".
But I get why people often mix those cars, they are pretty similar looking, especially from the rear. But no common parts at all.

This a fascinating and interesting video. I always wanted to own a MOSKVICH, but ended up with 5 Ladas. Not all Soviet era cars were as terrible as people think!
