“State of the Art” training facility… there’s is nothing that sets this training facility apart from any other academy. The Michigan State Police have a great facility, not DPD.

The “academy” is less than state of the art. It’s probably the worst training academy under the MCOLES standard in the state.

The turn over rate for the Detroit police department is baffling. Losing approximately 50-100 officers every 3-4 months.

Training is lack luster.
Recruiting is embarrassing.
Retention of Officers is NOT there. The city can care less. They (the city) know what they need to retain officers and they’re NOT doing it.

New officers are hired to “train” and learn/pass the MCOLES exam. After their 5-6 months in the Detroit Police academy they typically leave for a suburban department which actually cares about their well being with better morale and better pay.

They don’t give a damn.
The criminals run this city.

Wayne County prosectors are a joke too.

Crime is NOT down in this city.
There’s approximately 3-6 non fatal and fatal shootings every night in this city. With the summer coming it’s going to be even higher. Unfortunately.

Unfortunately within the Detroit Police Department if you do not take training on your own time and own dime you are SOL. The departments training is stuck in the 70s and is the bare minimum.

I whole heartedly encourage anyone to go any precinct within the city and sign a waiver and do a ride alone. Preferably with a Special Ops/Booster car this way they can’t hide the real crime that’s not spoken of on the news and media outlets.
