Jim Cornette's 'Fried Chicken' Line During NWA Powerrr (Original vs. Edited)

Even though the shows are taped in advance, a line by Jim Cornette slipped past the editors and made its way onto YouTube.

"Trevor Murdoch, he's mad, bad, and dangerous to know. He's the only man I've ever known that can strap a bucket of fried chicken on his back and ride a motorscooter across Ethiopia..."

Social media took notice, got Jim Cornette and NWA trending, leading to the eventual removal and re-upload of the entire episode by NWA.

The day after the episode's broadcast, Cornette resigned (not fired) from the National Wrestling Alliance, leading to believe the line he made was the specific reason for his departure.

If you listen closely to the edited version, you can hear Jim Cornette cutting the line live in the studio background.

I'm watching old nwa "world championship wrestling" episodes on the network and in November of '87 he used the same line when referring to Big Bubba Rogers. Everyone laughed, even Tony Schiavone.

Crying out loud, South Park's had a character called Starvin Marvin for over twenty years, the human race honestly needs to get a grip.

Really? That's the thing that got him in trouble?

The only thing really bad about what he said is that it was a terribly dated reference as the Ethiopian famine ended in the late 80s. What a hyper-sensitive culture the US is breeding lately. Went from being a leading example of societal and artistic rebellion to being a sad example of see-no-evil, hear-no-evil hyper-sensitive conformity. Tsk, tsk.

It was a line that Cornette used 30 years ago. This is wrestling not real life!! He was not fired, he quit because he doesn't want to have to worry about what he says on TV because too many people get butt hurt by a comment that he did not intend it to be taken the way some people took it.

It's kinda like the joke "How do you kill 10 flies all at once? Punch an Ethiopian in the face."

And the NWA wonders why nobody cares about them. Imagine interpreting this as racist.
