Pre-Calculus Prep: Converting 510 Degrees to Radians

In pre-calculus, you'll often encounter the need to convert angles measured in degrees to radians. Converting from degrees to radians involves using a simple formula:

Angle in radians = Angle in degrees × (π/180)

To convert an angle from degrees to radians, follow these steps:

1. Begin with the angle measure in degrees that you want to convert.

2. Multiply the angle in degrees by the conversion factor (π/180). The value of π (pi) is approximately 3.14159.

3. The result you obtain will be the equivalent angle measure in radians.

Let's work through an example:

Example: Convert 510 degrees to radians.

Angle in degrees = 510

Angle in radians = 510 × (π/180)
= 510π/180
= 17π/6 radians

So, 510 degrees is equal to 17π/6 radians.

It's worth noting that radians are often the preferred unit when working with angles in pre-calculus and trigonometry because they provide a more direct relationship with the unit circle and trigonometric functions. However, it's still useful to be able to convert between degrees and radians, as different contexts may require different units of angle measurement.

Being able to convert angles between degrees and radians will be helpful for solving trigonometric equations, working with periodic functions, and understanding circular motion and other related concepts in pre-calculus.
These videos are designed to review and reteach Precalculus and Collegeboard Pre-CALC AP content. My videos cover functions, polynomials, exponential and logarithmic expressions, trigonometry, parametric equations, polar coordinates, vectors, matrices and systems, conic sections, discrete mathematics, sequences and series; and an introduction to calculus.
