Cracow is the only major Polish city that survived the war with relatively little damage, so it's really "authentic". On the contrary Warsaw was almost completly grouded with 85% of buildings being destroyed, when they were rebuilding it after WW2 they took old paintings and descripions as a patter, so it is at the same time the newest "old" city and the city with the oldest style ;p People tried to preserv as many original structures as possible, but not much left, for expamle on the squere where the grave of unknown solidiers is there was a huge palace but only a few columns left and that columns are the grave. You can also see "powstanie 1944" everywhere, it means uprising and Warsaw Uprising was the biggest resistance operation made by a single country during WW2, it last 2 months and on both sides 250 thousand people were killed, mostly civilians, so that's why it is so important to citizens of Warsaw.
Back to Cracow there is many interesting facts, but to name a few the main square is actually the biggest medieval market sqare in whole Europe and the building in the middle of it is the first market under the roof, so you can say it's the first shopping mall xD
