Fortnite Is Removing Battle Pass Exclusivity

In this video I go over an announcement Fortnite just made about removing Battle Pass Exclusivity. Fortnite will begin to sell Battle Pass cosmetics in the item shop 18 months after that season ends. This change currently only effects upcoming seasons and not seasons that happened before this change was made. I don’t think they should release the edit styles to the shop. The skins themselves I can understand but the edit styles such as lvl 200 take a long time to get if you play normally and just being able to buy them if you don’t reach the level takes away from the point that you grind for that style.

I do wish that only the items that were included in the base battle pass, levels 1-150 ish, a.k.a before the super styles.

Still keeps those that care about exclusively happy while appealing to those who missed the skins.

There are quite a few skins from former battle passes I'd really like to buy. Sucks that isn't how this works but I understand they advertised former passes as exclusive so it'd be unfair to those who bought it.

I started playing a few months ago, so I'm just SOL unfortunately.

It’s a mechanism to make money. Money from partners who agree to re-release for a profit share, money from players who want to pay for things they’ve missed etc, and the only negative is people who want to show off a level of exclusivity (which they’ll still get in exclusive variants from what the blog says?)

It says future but I know this is just a test in the beginning to see how the community reacts to this change, later on they will include the old passes FOR SURE no doubt in my mind.

It's important to note that Apex Legends is doing a DOUBLE battle pass this season to match their ranked split, two passes in one season!. I think every br is looking to increase revenue since the playerbase has shrunk across the board, even if its as simple as making sure they can resell collab skins. IMO its a great change, it always felt wrong for major collab skins like Tomb Raider to be locked after the season is over.

I’m quite new and have no stake in this, but the battle pass is essentially free if you play somewhat regular. You pay for the first one and get every pass after that free.

From what I see in the shop the skins cost more than a battle pass, so the cost benefit is so large, it’s not a problem when they come into the shop at some point.

Battle pass, 7-8 skins with different variaitons and styles with pick axe, glider, music, etc for about 10$. That's why you buy the battle pass.

Honestly. Most of the stuff from the recent battle passes aren’t worth buying as stand alone items. They’re just boring. You buy the pass then never use the skins again.

Definitely a positive change.

Battle passes aren’t supposed to be good because they’re exclusive, they’re good because they are a great deal for the price. No one would buy BPs if they costed 100 bucks.

I think they should implement a voucher system, where for example battle pass or crew owners will get one voucher per season and will be able to get one previous BP skin, maybe even a collab skin only.

This is the opening salvo for Epic. Introduce the OPTION to get things that were in a battle pass... then later, go back and make it retroactive once people get used to the idea, or over the butt hurt they have not having something 'exclusive'. This will happen rather quickly considering people that DON'T want this can't say much since this is currently for future passes, and everyone else that wants this retroactive now (me included) will start, or continue, to request/ask/demand/pray/hope to Epic that they release those old skins for purchase. Drives me nuts I missed the Mandalorian... and a few many others...lol.

Essentially all the old marvel battle pass skins should be in the item shop within next few months

Since subscriptions always go up in price, and assuming fortnite crew will as well, if they were ever to make previous passes available as well they should add it as a feature of the crew subscription. They could raise the price with that bonus feature.

I started in OG and dropped it then came back in C5S1.
I’ve always said that this should be a thing because epic is literally losing money with the BP exclusivity. I haven’t finished the video but my idea was that they sell the BP for 950, but the individual skins for 1, 000 or something.
That way you either get the “bundle” or if you never got to play back then you still can get the skin but at a mark up.
I would buy skins from BP because they look cool but I can never get them because I didn’t play back then.
