Does balanced success ACTUALLY exist?

Unpopular opinion: True balance doesn't exist (This is not life advice, just my own perspective)

I've never met anyone who's had extreme levels of success without an extreme level of sacrifice in a period of their life.

Knowing that this is true for my own entrepreneurship journey, I've had to learn how much success I wanted and how much I was willing to sacrifice.

What's your thoughts? Does balanced success exist? How do you define success?

Relate! It was hustling, unsustainable, unbalanced, non-stop work, morning to night, 7 days a week for 2-3 yrs, so that all the years after could be cruising.

I think it was Tony Robbins, but regardless, I heard someone say “the only way to move somewhere is to get off-balance”

At school I met a 16-year-old boy whose father had died when he was young, he took care of his mother, his little brothers, he was the best in the class, we studied from 6 am until departure time 4 pm, he ran to work until night, he always got excellent grades, he helped the rest of us classmates to understand the topics, he was kind, funny and had many friends.

We all had a lot of respect for him, many of us had never met someone like him in person, a couple years ago he graduated from University and we know that it took him twice as much work as everyone else

I'm really proud of him and he has inspired me to keep going ✨

Yes! People develop these wellness routines AFTER they’ve had success. Success means sacrifice. I didn’t achieve anything great but I got through uni on time with pretty good grades while working two jobs. How did I do it? I worked and slept and did housework and that’s it. I’ve barely had a social life and I dropped everything immediately whenever necessary to do what I needed to do for my degree. There’s no glamour, no to-do list system, no study regiment. I just did as much as possible all the time. It wasn’t pretty and it cost me a lot but now I can pick and choose between positions and have mastered things my peers are still in the process of figuring out. I have no idea whether I ‘d do it like this again, though. Nobody can give me my early twenties back.

In my experience, life moves in ascending waves. There is a “contrast” period of growth and advancement that demands your presence and energy, forcing you to adapt and can make you off-balance. Then there are periods of integration, where you are able to take more time to reflect, balance, visualize, etc. May not be the case for everyone but I’ve definitely experienced this in life.

Most success stories are made up because most of them involve extreme isolation, substance abuse, neglect of personal well-being and/or a slurry of other nasty things that come with creating something that you’re not sure is going to make you a millionaire, or kill you.

I’ve lost almost every valued relationship I had for the project I’m working on and it’s finally starting to pay off, but f*** I wish I said yes the last time my friends bothered to ask me to the pub.

Exactly!! I get up at 5am, make sure my hubby has breakfast, feed our animals, read my Bible for a few, make my coffee to take with me, grab my gym bag and work clothes, then head out the door by 7am.

I workout between 7:10-8:15 then wash up and head to work. Work from 9-4, get home and edit my videos (I film on days off), cook supper, clean up, shower, then in bed not a minute after 10.

If you’re grinding physically and job-wise, you don’t have time for the other stuff.
I take off anytime I absolutely need to but have weekends off since I work for myself 👍🏻

KEEP GRINDING YALL. It’ll get better, your sacrifices will pay off!

i think perfection should not be the thing we pursue but it should be the flexibility to do things that we feel most comfortable in daily journey

I feel the only way to achieve a schedule like that is to have already made it to where you're going.

Absolutely true. The biggest sacrifice is the time with your loved ones.

“To be successful you have to sacrifice your family” is one of the greatest condemnations of capitalism ever

This is so true, and I wish more lifestyle gurus would let this truth out. Closest to this that I could remember was a 2013 May Harvard Review issue on Why There's No Such Thing As A Work Life Balance. Journaling only works to summarise what we are feeling in a specific moment and relieve them at a later time when we are reading our journals. Yoga can be a good start to a day, but most of us are sleep deprived with multiple things to juggle. Time management only works if you are willing to cut down on quality.

Yeah, we sacrifice a lot and then we start realizing we need balance and start doing the healthy stuff to recover

They were depressed and suicidal for a while to get to the top. He’s saying you gotta go through times where you hate yourself if you want to be successful. Great message!

This is the realest thing I’ve heard
I kept trying to make a routine like that and failing until I realized not every morning can start at the same time not every morning I need 15 min of yoga I need to cater my mornings to each day

Thank you for sharing this. I absolutely needed to hear this.

I recently turned to personal development to reach ambitious goals. I do morning rituals, I accept tasks that makes me anxious and daunts me, and I keep learning and learning.

I find myself becoming a different person. It's a slow process and I just have to be consistent. However, whenever there's deadline, when my whole week's schedule is jam-packed, I have to sacrifice my sleep and my morning routines. I feel like my consistency falls off and that I'm not disciplined enough, I'm not working hard enough.

But what you said, and from what I heard from other similarly amazing people, is that sacrifices are essential. Your daily routines builds you and your build will push you through difficult yet rewarding times. Then, consistency is when you are still able to return to your daily routines after breaking it once you have accomplished what needs to be accomplished for that time being.

I resonate with this. Lately I’m drowning with work and studies with my primary goal being to crack a particularly tough exam. It might take me a few years, but the grind is tough. I’ve given up all my free time to prepare for this challenge, and not spending enough time with my family makes me feel so guilty. It even makes me self question if this journey is worth missing all the family time esp when everyone else around you is living life and having fun. I just needed to hear this affirmation. Thankyou .
