Asus G751 - Keyboard Replacement HD

Hello guys,

I'm back with another video. I had multiple requests about how to replace the keyboard.

I bought my keyboard for around 25€ which is significantly less than the 120€ they ask for a new palm rest.
I spilled coke on mine and it got all sticky and also I broke off one key before that so I had just enough.

Let me know if you'd like to see something else about this laptop and which laptop you'd like to see me disassemble next. I'll try to get my hands on it.

Let me know if you like this new style of the videos. I'm trying to improve the quality. :)

Thanks for putting this together!

WARNING TO OTHERS: This one is harder than it appears! You can carefully melt the plastic with the soldering iron and pull away the metal to try and keep enough plastic for re-soldering, but the process of getting the melted plastic to properly cover the new metal part has a lot of problems. For one, don't use a thick, soft cover under the keyboard, as it won't allow you to push hard enough. I ended up putting a thin piece of paper under the keyboard, and it was much easier to push parts together. Second, even if you were good at preserving the plastic for reapplication, it still doesn't come back into the new holes reliably, so you can end up with several adjacent holes with no plastic going through. I had to steal plastic from other parts of the keyboard to get things to work properly. Third, you need to be really careful with how you position the keyboard before you start. If the keys are not right in the middle of their holes on the palmrest, the sides of the buttons will catch every time you press them.

If you want to take this on, I suggest using thin paper over a hard surface, getting some extra plastic for soldering, and be very careful about the placement of your keyboard before you start soldering the new one in place.

I fixed unresponsive keys, but now I have a couple of sticky keys, and I didn't realize the new keyboard wasn't backlit, so I'm looking to replace the whole palmrest with keyboard and touchpad now. :-(

Amazing guide! Followed this to replace a water damaged keyboard, and although the process is tedious, it worked perfectly. The process is rather tedious, but it's all well documented and easy to follow. Even with a few snapped tabs, it's easy to get back together with the right technique. 10/10!

I can't say thanks enough for this video. It would have been too daunting if you hadn't shown the way! I was able to replace the keyboard in my G751J because of this video. It took 3 hours. Note: if you buy a new keyboard the cable will be glued down where it goes into the keyboard. To replace the back light you have to lift up the cable. The glue is too strong, so to lift it up you can soak rubbing alcohol into the glue with a Q-tip and after a few minutes it will lift up easily.

Thanks for this. I replaced the keyboard for my wife's G751. She was already using the brand new HP omen, which has to be sent back for repair on the battery charge circuit. So bought a new keyboard from eBAY and followed your instructions (2 videos). Worked a treat, except for some of those plastic soldered points disappearing so could not weld them all back. Wife is happy and prefers the old Asus over the HP because it is more silent. I may end up with the HP Omen which is a more powerful machine (6 core vs 4 core). For work. Everybody wins.

Excellent videos. If you replace your keyboard be aware that melting plastic attach points can cause some of the plastic to extrude out onto the surface of the laptop, creating little nubs. They don't really bother but that's why some melt points don't have enough material to make a good attachment, some of it leaked out the other side. Still, it's good to have a working keyboard again, thanks!

Very nice video. I replaced the keyboard on my gl552v since it is similar to this. Just a heads up that when re soldering, I suggest doing the corners first then the edges because they are the most likely to pop out.

how did your get the keyboard off the laptop? I see at 9:24 that you somehow managed to take the keyboard base off the laptop without dissembling the whole thing but that is where I stopped. A little elaboration could help. thanks

I followed the video and everything seemed fine. Many keys on the new keyboard don't work. Any idea what is wrong?

What a delay! It's because I bought my asus rog two years ago for video editing jobs and he was already 3 years old, the reason I came to this channel is because the computer has been jittering and jumping on the screen for the last few days, in the lab I was told it was probably the chipset It started shortly after I had a battery replaced (because it bothered me that the battery stopped charging and stayed at 0% all the time) and I suspect it's because of the computer disassembly and contacts wrong, do you have any ideas to help me? I have already considered buying a motherboard from China. Thanks in advance isacc.

Hi! Nice vid but got a question. What can I use to replace that plastic that maintains the keyboard attached to the laptop's case? Because I kinda welded to much some parts and now they are a little loose and I don't like how it feels
