People overlooked how much Weidman wrestling with Wonderboy helps Thompson. I had Wonderboy getting the finish in the fourth. Wonderboy is such a tough match up for Lawler so don't be surprised if Thompson wins that title at some point this year.

*adding to my previous comment below- when referencing kickboxing, insuation of course was that its obviously more direct and offensive with tkd being defensive, with deceptive movement if performed at a high level.

Robin Black is the best MMA analyst, but he needs to expand his shirt wardrobe.

the difference with super- talented movement that its engrained from childhood, theres just no easy adapting and learning it - for the most part. Weidman, can practice all he wants with that spin kick, it just wont ever develop that well. not picking on him because hes obviously great. its finally nice to see these tae kwon do/karate guys develop their sprawls and wrestling. Full contact tkd includes a certain movement and tricky flow that is not used in kickboxing, where the engaging is much more direct and offensive. (and badass of course) For a while i cringed as a tkd instructor over the years (during conversation) when many people often assumed that its useless. Alone, its limited yes. Aside from mma training, if you are a high level tkd guy with speed and power....and you can incorprate some basic boxing and wrestling into your game, it makes a pretty dangerous guy for most people. Not being command master of the obvious, its just nice to see this relatively recent transition in the cage. As a longtime mma fan, nice to see these techniques being used. Although its not mentioned often through televised events, everyone that practices has a such different skill set/ability which dictates so much. Ive literally seen guys that took years coming up through the ranks that received their black belt and were unfortnately useless based on natural ability. They were great people and i respect their tenacity; however watching them well, yeah..
Unfortunately that doesnt get spoken about in detail. Of course Black mentioned that hes going to have to find another way (paraphrased). Theres a deep technical side seldom mentioned, which has received more spotlight of course with Dom Cruz, C.M. and a few others. exciting time to see these changes and styles being incorporated by guys that can actually perform the techniques. the fights are much more exciting and it opens up more interesting conversation in a world dominated by bjj which is awesome of course. Black is one of the very best at technical analysis. Hes on point with every word.
Great show.

MMA's core standup training is Muay Thai. People knock on traditional martial arts like kung fu, karate and aikido etc but as MMA continues to evolve we will eventually witness the benefits of traditional martial arts. Not for the fancy movements but the footwork of TMA that uses range and angles more than straight entry attacks provided by Muay Thai. TMA is more about hitting your opponent and not get hit. MT is about better conditioning than your opponent. MT is the hammer. TMA is the whip with a metal ball attached to the end. Be like water. Use what is useful and discard what is useless in any given situation. Adapt.

Over analyzing to death again. Hendricks looks a lot smaller than he usually does and this had a lot to do with his power and his ability to impose his will. It was easy to see that Thompson was much bigger than Hendricks and this is unusual because Hendricks was a big 170 when he was winning.

No IVs no way Hendricks wins again! he only used to win cause he was always alot heavier than the other guys

I really like what Robin said at 8:23. I hope Pettis takes that advice because all that wrestling training didn't do him much good.
