Selecting an offense -
1. Offense is ever changing however I think its important to have a staple offense that your team and program can run to fall back on.
2. A blend of all three-motion/read and react, continuity, and sets. You have to be able to grind , execute and then just be able to play.
3. Offense built on what you have for personale and strengths
4. Don’t follow fads, but stick to what works for you
5. Youth Program should follow your staple
6. Breakdown drills should reflect your offense

.Type of COACH
The System Coach
The system coach has major offensive system that they will run every year.
The "Non-System" Coach
The non-system basketball coach changes each year depending on the type of basketball player they have in their school.

Type of OFFENSE

Ep 2
Motion Offense
This includes a non-scripted offense that that will be different each time down the court. Examples: Motion, Read and React, Dribble Drive
Continuity Offenses
This is a more structured offense. Examples would be the Flex/Swing, Shuffle, Triangle.
Called Play Offenses
A set of called plays that will have a given objective. Example: UCLA High/Low Offense.
Quick Hitter Offenses
This offense would have a play in which 1 or 2 passes and then a shot or look at the baket. Quick Hitters…Can Flow into a Continuity or Motion Offense.
Zone Offense
Will Work against a specific Zone Offense ( either an odd or even front).

1. The best multiyear offense for youth is probably read & react. This because you have the garantee that they learned every fundamental eventually (I do think the offense is too easily disrupted and a little bit too complicated so it soaks up alot of time). It also gives you a multiyearplaybook with alot of resources and drills.
2. The easiest offense for coaches with limited time and knowledge, is probably Ball Screen Continuity Offense. This because you mostly have to adress all the Ballscreen options against defensive strategies. So it does not take alot of time to prepare for a season of Ball Screen Continuity Offense. Simply train attacking different defensive strategies in 2v2/3v3/4v4 and 5v5 format basically means training fundamentals to become better at the continuity offense. Do not forget that training Ballscreens competatively 2v2 till 5v5 is also alot of fun.
3. My favorite strategical offense for more experienced or older players is the Blocker-Mover, because the offensively less gifted players on a team (even the smaller ones) can basically play Mover. Getting a higher impact of the least offensively talented player on the court (I'm talking to you Jack Salt) can also have a very large impact on games, I like the idea of getting the most efficiency out of limited players.

It's not about the offense that we select that makes the team successful. It's the timing and execution of it. I have seen a lot of teams (local and international) who runs a particular system offense, but failed to score because of failure of execution.

We have to play the read and react offense wich is great u16 players. But I would like to have a simple offense to get a certain player open. Like quik hitters. But read and react has so many options like back screening, high post.... like the first eight layers is ideal for this age
