Rail Canyon’s Extra Mission as Team Sonic might be the hardest timed ring attack in Sonic Heroes. The mission hasn’t had any player get the same ring record that players have gotten for the normal mission, even though the excluded rings here are not far away from the beginning of the stage (Team Sonic’s beginning). The time limit is pretty strict. You need to go fast while playing efficiently to get a large amount of rings. Only going fast won’t help you. Efficiency is the most important out of everything in this mission. This stage is also difficult compared to other stages in this game and can easily cause you to fail in a variety of ways.

I got all rings in Team Sonic’s intended level for this mission. There are 25 rings behind Team Sonic’s starting point that I did not take, but getting all of them and finishing the level in this mission seems to be hard to achieve. This ring attack can be made easier with a lot of efficient choices for moving and attacking, as well as optimization of how you collect rings. The rails can be grinded on much more efficiently than I did here. Your teammates can grind ahead of you while you are all at a high speed, which allows them to obtain rings on any rails next to the rail you are on, allowing you to get rings in the same section at the same window of time. This is vital for a set of three rails that have rings in the same positional location on the rail. You can use this strategy without too much issue when you change to Flight Formation on rails, near speed boosters. Using speed boosters lets characters go ahead of the leader and stay on separate rails compared to the leader. Getting the most speed when grinding in this level is key for this mission, and I didn’t do that really well.

This record can be improved in practice without too much difficulty, as long as you practice and avoid making mistakes in Rail Canyon where mistakes would significantly deter you from keeping your speed. The PC version has the ability to go faster and save time in numerous regions of the level. I made mistakes in this run, and even with the mistakes, I still had time at the end to slow down a little near the Goal Ring. With work, getting all 25 of the rings that I mentioned, or at least some of them, is possible.
