This is definitely true. My grandmother was left-handed, and would get smacked on the hand with a ruler from the nuns until she started using her right hand.

My grandpa was left-handed and they tried to beat that out of them. My dad is also a lefty, born in the 60s, and he didn't get ridiculed for it. I am naturally left handed but I broke my left arm when I was 5, just when we were starting to learn to write formally so they just made me use my right hand. So I continued with that and now I'm like the opposite of ambidextrous lol basically I have to try everything with both hands before I figure out which hand will work better for the task. As a nurse this means I write right handed, tend to be right handed with wound dressings and handing meds to patients, but I give injections and start IVs with my left hand. It has definitely concerned a few people who notice but usually people aren't paying that much attention.

I call bs. I've never heard of nuns coming to students houses. Some of the nuns were a bit cray, but they didn't let it hurt their work at the school.u

My mother in law was originally left handed, but when she was in grade school, the teacher tied her left arm down and made her into a “ righty”. Luckily, they “let” her just sit on her left hand after 1st grade. Just AWFUL.
