Dawn of the Illuminate — An emergency briefing inspired by Ace Combat

As the previous Major Order was progressing smoothly. An ancient foe of humanity reveals itself from the shadows of tyranny: the Illuminates. Unexpectedly taking the planet Calypso by storm, Super Earth and the Helldivers must now rally and muster whatever forces they can to defend the Saleria Sector in the newly opened Southern Front of the Second Galactic War.

The Illuminates are nightmares. Take the militaristic structure of the Automotons and merge them with the horde tactics of the Terminids and you get a fighting force the likes of which I've never seen. They use shields to an unprecedented extent, half my weapons seem ineffective.

What scares me the most about this, is the fact that in both the terminid and automaton fronts, we know what they want, the automatons want cyberstan and the terminids want to expand and be free. But on the illuminate front, they dont want territory or freedom, they want *revenge* .

To any fellow Helldivers who have yet to encounter the resistance from the enemy on the planet Calypso’s surface…

I plead with you, do easy missions first to better understand the threat, DO NOT ENGAGE THE ENEMY AT HIGHER DIFFICULTY.


I have not had such a worse time fighting enemies in the Second Galactic War as fighting the Illuminate for the first time. These guys take all the worst and most difficult parts of the Automatons and Terminids fronts, and lobs them together at you, with both lasers and shields to boot. I have had to leave behind my fellow Helldivers, as they were getting overwhelmed by the hordes of zombified citizens, Illuminate soldiers and massive laser tripods, just so I could finish the objectives and extract. These ‘things’ have made feel disgraced to be a Helldiver, and to leave my fellow divers behind alone to die horrific deaths. But, these abominations are too great a force to simply charge into headfirst and expect to come out on top. We must understand how to better fight them while they are at their weakest… and at higher difficulties, they will demolish anyone that attempts to stand in their way. Thus, making us lose ground in the larger fight.

To beat these squids, you need special weaponry like the AMR or grenade launcher to hit the Illuminate soldiers and other elites hard, but you also need machine guns and sentries to deal with the massive hordes of Voteless former citizens that the Illuminate twisted into monsters. My suggestion for dealing with dropships is to utilize 500 kg bombs and orbital bombardment stratagems, as those have shown to be the most effective at destroying a ship in a single shot.

I wish there was something more I could tell you now, but so far most everything I have seen is that the Illuminate are near unbeatable even with some of the best weaponry on the bot and bug fronts. All I can say now is just aim for the head, pack stratagems for strong single target weapons for Illuminate soldiery, sentries for crowds of squid zombies, orbital precision strikes for dropships and whatever is the most powerful stratagem you can utilize against the heavy elite tripods and the like.
