if i died
and i was dead
there’d be no need
to fix my head
there’d be no need
to go to work
renew the tags
or wear a shirt
i wouldn’t need
nuthin to do
if it were me
coulda been you
do do do
do do do
do do do do
dead

if i died
and it were aught
i’d grow a tree
and that would rot
and that would bloom
sure enuff
it’s part of things
it’s part of stuff
to everything
you’ve got to turn
you don’t deserve
the things you earn
do do do
do do do
do do do do
dead

when ya die
they don’t know
if there’s a place
you got to go
but hopefully
there’s no chores
jus john prine
celestial doors
and good friends
and fun times
like the ones
that fill up my mind
do do do
do do do
do do do do
dead

Dear Mr. Welles,

I love that you exist. I used to make music myself and never reached the success that you have. Probably due to a lack of talent and ambition, but that's neither here nor there.

Just want to say that I hope you know how much your music means to those of us who were lucky enough to find it. You write the kind of songs that I never had the courage (or talent, probably) to write. Your music makes me feel less alone.

If you do by some chance read this then please just know how much you've brought to my life, and that you seem like a really cool dude. I'm so glad you're alive. Thank you for not giving in to any suicidal thoughts.

Also I'm having a potluck this Sunday if you're near northern California, and you're invited. Hit me up for details if you're interested (I know you won't, but just putting it out there)

I am so impressed with you, jesse, and grateful you exist. We are better off because you're you, and the way you choose to share your songs with us, makes me feel lucky every time I turn this device. Thank you for sharing your talent and soul with us. We are lucky to have you and would miss you terribly if you left.❤❤❤❤❤

Every time you write a song, it's like I'm bushwacking through a thick forest, and someone cut a path for me. You make the journey a little easier!!! Thanks!!

New strings! Well, that settles it, I may have to replace mine, finally. You are inspiring so many of us to to get back to picking. Your songs are going to be sung at camp fires for many years forward, son. Hopefully you will be with us for many more years. 🙏🏼☮️♥️🐬

Your music gives me hope, buddy. I hope there's something out there giving you hope, too.

Thanks for being the apt soundtrack of the end of the US empire, Jesse.

Jesse, Geniuses have depression issues. I know. I have my demons. You are God sent. You are not alone in this world. Keep preaching your good will. We all love you my brother.

the wiggling string ends, the flower begging to be put in his hair, and his nonchalance all make this so amusing. He sums it up pretty profoundly: "it's part of things, it's part of stuff... do do do do dead"

Jesse Welles, I love the way your mental wanderings, your subtle insights and fine instrumental skills all merge into great stuff that I really enjoy watching and listening to. Wonderful songs. 👏🥰

Jesse sings a song about dying and suddenly it’s the ultimate funeral song we all want played. Nobody else could’ve pulled it off.

I have really been enjoying Jesse Welles! But I am reluctant to try to describe how or why or who he reminds me of or any of that. We are enjoying a really good moment in life on the otherwise infernal internet. I hope it keeps coming. But Jesse will do this until his muse steers him in another direction.
It sure answers a need I didn't know I had though.

Keep writing and singing, Jesse. You are helping people and we love you.

The greatest breakout artist of this summer by such an extreme margin in my opinion. Music like this is so refreshing
