BMW X5M (F85) Review: Everything You Need To Know Before Buying One USED!!

This week I got behind the wheel of a 2018 BMW X5M, and oh boy was this thing sweet! If you by any chance need the practicality of an SUV, but also want to hang on to the visceral fun of a proper 'M' car... then look no further!

This is of course the previous generation F85 series X5M, and not the brand new F95 model. Should you buy this INSTEAD of the newer one ?!? Well you can get into one of these for well BELOW $80k as opposed to shelling out over $110k for the F95 series (even more for the Competition variant...) This 2018 X5M still boasts an S63 Twin-Turbo V8 producing 567hp, a variant of the same motor found in the brand new X5M. This alongside a fantastically programmed ZF8 speed and an AWD system... propels this tank to 60 in about 4 seconds flat!!

What I didn't expect was the sheer amount of leather found all around this cabin. I could barely find any hard or scratchy plastics at all!

So for somebody looking at a slightly more affordable performance SUV, and who wants a bit more luxury than the new X3M can provide, look no further!

I have ‘17 X5M. Zero issues, 65k miles. Car’s a rocket, very versatile, and massive improvement over the previous generation and an absolute bargain at a used car market!

I have an '18. Very pleased. Consider however if you want winter wheels/tires it changes the look a lot. I use rear spacers which helps. The lack of Park button still freaks me out but I learned when I open the door in Drive it goes into park (try to stop first). Just changed my front brake pads - $200 from ECS and very easy to do. Drive well.

To get a much better exhaust sound, improve performance, and gas consumption, you have to do a few things:
1. replace catted down pipe to catless down pipe - improves performance, gas consumption, and sound at the cost of some exhaust smell
2. install x-pipe to get rid of rasp and increase performance
3. install vibrant ultra quiet resonators to get of drone
4. install exhaust cutouts just before muffler so you can bypass the muffler to get much better sound, but close the cutouts when you want your car to be quieter
5. stage 2 flash tune e.g. BootMod3 Flash Tune - improves performance

The F85 sounds amazing now and blazing fast. Perfection!

Great video! You articulate your taking points well, and spoke about all of the major aspects of the car. This helped me make my decision to go look at a used 2017 X5M tomorrow! Thank you

I have a 2018 X5M, owned since February currently has 35k miles on the clock. Just taken her for my first long drive across Europe and unfortunately had a complete engine failure after 8 hours driving.... gutted awaiting BMW to confirm issue.

I’m taking the X5M over the X3M all day!! Not even close. This is a SUV category. If I wanted a hot hatch then I wouldn’t. I’d get a M2 comp

I would definitely take the '04 Rx330 with Twin Turbos and Nos. 0-60 = Blown Head-Gasket.

I have that car, same color exterior and wheels. plain blk leather interior. I love it. I drove an X3M Comp before I bought this and was so close to buying it. I am so glad I bought this over the X3M. The 5 was just more fun to drive and more comfortable.
