Tow truck operators rallied at the Ottawa Police Service’s Orléans station Monday morning with plans to take their protest against what they claim is a police-backed monopoly to city hall.

Organizer Nadeem Chamaa of Ottawa Towing and Recovery said just before 8 a.m. that dozens of tow trucks had filled Eric Czapnik Way near city police’s east division station.

These tow truck drivers who are in contract with Ottawa Police are very aggressive, in 2010, I was involved in an accident in Ottawa and one tow truck driver showed up aggressively and began pushing me and towing my car (I was not blocking the road) the only way I could stop him was to assault him and decided not to. The driver was pressuring me to sale my accidental car to him for $80, I refused to do so and he was refusing to give back my car unless I pay him $300 for 5 kilometers towing. Later when I went to their head office, The manager was more aggressive and he claimed he was in contract with Ottawa police, he was yelling that you can do whatever you want. The corrupt Ottawa police were refusing to help me in this situation, if they had confirmed they called the tow truck, he only could charge me $69 and if they had confirmed they did not call the tow truck, this would allow me to take the tow truck to the court. I wrote many letters at that time to the city and headquarters of Ottawa police (In Toronto) and asked them to license tow truck drivers in Ottawa, many people were getting hijacked by tow truck drivers and police officers were actually helping them. Now it is good to see that finally, they updated the law and procedures of Ottawa police and these scammers are getting their butt kicked.
