Ancient Ship Building Technology in India

India has a Navigational history of more than 5000 years .
The feats achieved by the Indians during all these years have been nothing short of spectacular.
The understanding which led to the most state of the art ship building technology was envied upon by most nations. After all, India was referred to as the Golden Bird of the World and the Europeans went crazy for their quest to search and exploit India.
What was this technology which turned the heads of most nations in awe ?
Just like with everything else, Ancient Indians developed a keen sense of understanding in the art of ship building...
Our ancestors of more than 5000 years were believed to have travelled round the globe by means of sea voyage.
If the Technology was so perfect, what has happened to it now and why do we only learn about it only through history books?

But i doubt you are interested in facts that do not put india as the center of the universe. Drop the huge ego before you start talking about how enlightened indian culture was.
