Dada fought with Australia inside the ground and even giving necessary response to all statements given by Australia. In this series a new spinning hero discovered and he is Harbhajan Singh and what a great thing wrote in his destiny he is hero with ball but series winning runs are scored by him and without Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman 300 runs stand this series is incomplete. I am sure strong Australian side will never forget this series.

Sameer Dighe won the game for India.... I'm July 2001 born & this game happened in March 2001.
I was not even born when this game happened.
But I have watched lots of old matches and I love cricket played between 1965-2005.

This guy Sameer Dighe showed excellent temperament under pressure and stayed in the middle till the end to finish off the match.
His innings was so crucial, because India won the Test series...!!!

Rahul Dravid and VVS Lakshman played, built the greatest ever partnership in Test Cricket History at Eden Garden (Kolkata) & saved the game & kept the series alive.
Indians were followed on and lost 4 wickets in the 2nd innings too...!! Australian team were already gearing up to celebrate the Series victory in India & create a History as it was considered as the Final Frontier for the unstoppable Australian team who couldn't win Test Series in India.
But Rahul Dravid & VVS Lakshman didn't give their wickets and batted whole day in the hot summer sun of Kolkata with 1, 05, 000 people cheering for the nation, both of them batted for One & half days against the strong bowling lineup tackling Glen McGrath, Jason Gillespie, Damien Fleming, Shane Warne, Collin
Rahul Dravid finally was Runout for 180 & VVS got out for 281 and Indians were leading by more than 250 runs....!!
Chasing the target, Australian team started their innings at 10.30 AM & collapsed against the spin attack of Harbhajan Singh and Sachin Tendulkar & Australian team were all-out at 4.55 PM with 5 mins of game still left.
India not just won the game, but they saved the Series defeat & leveled the series 1-1.
In Final Test at Chennai (this video), India won by 2 Sameer Dighe & VVS were the heroes.
India won the series 2-1.
In Kolkata, when India won the match, hundreds of Policemen forgot their duty and were jumping along with Crowd in joy...!!! That was Test Cricket, cricket was not just a game, but it was a Religion that used to bind up the entire nation as one religion....!!

Harbhajan Singh bowled excellently in both innings to get 7 and 8 wickets respectively. In the first innings, indian batters played brilliantly including Sachin Tendulkar's 126. In the 2nd innings, batters like VVS Laxman, Sameer Dighe played the key roles in the winning contributions of India.

Those days our tailend batting was pathetic. See how Zaheer, Bahutule were struggling here to even play a proper shot. But now our tail enders are way better with bat amd winning us matches too. Nevertheless this series win changed Indian cricket forever. A new agressive captain emerged as Dada who himself was a great batsman. The legendary knock of VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid that turned the match upside down in our favour in the previous match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata was something to be told to generations to come. Back then with the kind of batting lineup India had our heart was in our mouth even if India needed 10 runs in 30 overs with 6wickets in hand 🙂. India team back in those days consistently gave heart attack

What amazes me is with only 154 runs to defend, the Aussies still managed to pick up 8 wickets, if they had managed to add another 20 runs on the board, Aussies would have surely won the match and the series.
If it was any other team defending 154, they would have given up easily once the opposition reaches 130+.
