auffassen: 1. etwas in einer bestimmten Weise verstehen, auslegen, deuten = to understand, interpret, interpret something in a certain way; 2. mit dem Verstand aufnehmen, erfassen, begreifen = to absorb, grasp, realise with the mind
Auffassung: Anschauung von etwas, Meinung, Ansicht; View of something, opinion, view
befassen: sich [eingehend] beschäftigen, auseinandersetzen = to occupy oneself [in detail], to deal with
