PRS SE McCarty 594 - Unboxing and first impressions.

I have been given the opportunity to take a test drive of a PRS SE 594, so I decided to make a few different videos while I have it, starting with unboxing it and giving my first impressions of it today. This is not a sponsored video.

I bought a new SE 594 DC when they had them marked down. I like the wide/fat neck, and mine plays great with no fret issues. I did swap out the pickups for SD Pearly Gates and some different tuners, and now it's a fantastic guitar!

My PRS SE McCarty 594 Faded Blue DC had several high frets, the nut was too low and truss rod needed adjustment. Had a local tech work on it. The tuners seem a little cheap. So far I love it, I just saw 2 used ones on Reverb for $625

I have the S2 Thinline version, bought it back in 2020. Overall it's a nice guitar but I found the pickups to be a bit lacking (the S2 I have has the 58/15 S pickups). They're not bad, but not great. Very punchy/percussive, and a little muddy. Curious if you find this one to be the same after playing it for a bit.

I like the 594 line, especially in that finish. However, the "big neck" aspect is what's keeping me from buying one, especially if it's anything like the Gibson 50s Standard necks.

I bought one about a month ago and I’m very disappointed. The guitar is definitely beautiful. The issue is the frets. The fret end on the high E side are ridiculous. It feels like it’s ripping my hand off. The pickups are ok. I took a chance on the SE line and was again disappointed. I’ve had 3 other SE’s and have ending up selling two of them mainly because of the pickups and turners. I picked up a used SE Swamp Ash Special and that guitar plays and sounds great. I really was hoping this McCarty would be a great bargain and I’m just disappointed.

Even with my disdain for PRS, I can't lie, that guitar looks and sounds good, especially after you threw some dirt on it

Everybody says PRS guitars are great so I must be the odd man out because I can't for the life of me get along with a PRS neck. Not picking on PRS, same goes for Ibanez. Have to say though that is a nice looking guitar.
