It’s a bit shocking today to realize that for thousands of years, slavery was considered normal across the globe. But what inspired a new generation of abolitionists to sacrifice their lives for freedom and end legalized slavery in the modern world?

In this message from Liquid Church’s series, Skeptics Welcome, Pastor Tim Lucas shares how the person and teaching of Jesus Christ sets the oppressed free. Throughout this social apologetics series, we’ve been asking the question, “Is Christianity good for humanity?” The answer when it comes to racial equality? Take a look at the lives of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and William Wilberforce - all passionate Christians whose faith led them to transform their worlds.

When we look at history, we find that wherever committed Christians take root, human flourishing follows. We hope this message helps answer some of your own questions about Jesus, justice, racial equality and the history of Christianity - Skeptics Welcome!

I've never quite understood the argument that the Bible is against slavery. If you look into it in detail and in context, it most definitely seems to condone actual chattel slavery. And never really condemns slavery itself. I get hung up on Leviticus 25:44-46 which says;
"As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you. You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be you property. You may bequeath them to you sons after you to inherit as a possession forever. You may make slaves of them, but over your brothers the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another ruthlessly"
This is chattel slavery plain and simple. And this is the Bible condoning it. Owning people as property for their entire lives, along with any children born to them.
I just can't wrap my head around how the pro-slavery people in America were misusing the Bible when it comes to slavery specifically. It kinda seems pretty specific if you read and understand all it has to say on the subject.
I've been searching for an answer for years but haven't found it yet. And I've read and listened to everything I could find on the subject for quite some time now. I just don't get it, and it bothers me.
