Canelo began as a super welterweight. Mayweather began as a super featherweight. That's a 24 pound natural size difference. Mayweather was knocking out his opponents at the lighter weights. Then, over the next decade or so, he moved up four more weight classes. Very few fighters who move up multiple weight classes will maintain the knockout ratio they had at their lightest weight. What Canelo says is true: Mayweather didn't rock him with his punches. But to his credit, Mayweather moved all the way up to super welterweight, and it was at that weight that he gave Canelo a lesson in the sweet science of hitting without getting hit. Canelo was never staggered, true, but his face was puffy from getting repeatedly hit. Canelo acknowledges as much, and gives due credit to his rival. He never "pokes fun" in this interview.

They way I see it is Floyd's experience showed in that fight. He picked apart a undefeated champion. On Canelo's end he was 23 yrs old champion that foolishly accepted a catch weight bout with the best in the world. He out boxed him, definitely didn't destroy him. I need to see knockdowns or a knockout to feel one fighter destroyed the other.

The weight cut hurt his performance more than his lack of experience. But he did lack that level of experience. He is a significantly better fighter following that night. Styles like Lara and Mayweather will always cause him problems.
