"Hicranı Açmıştır Sinede Yare" (Sorrow has opened a wound in the heart) is a Turkish song composed by Sadi Hoşses. The lyrics were written by the poet Karacaoğlan. It is performed in the Mahur makam (mode) and follows the traditional şarkı form. The usul (rhythm) used in this song is Düyek.

Sadi Hoşses was born in 1908 in Aleppo, the Ottoman Empire. When he was three months old, his family moved to Istanbul, Turkey. Due to his father's occupation, they travelled extensively throughout Anatolia. After his father's passing in Alanya, he settled in Istanbul. In Istanbul, he graduated from Ameli Hayat Yisan Trade School. He earned a living by working in radio and engaging in trade. He collaborated with renowned reciters, including Hafız Burhan, Hafız Kemal, and Sâdettin Kaynak, as part of "mevlütan" gatherings. Sâdi Hoşses independently developed his musical knowledge and skills. In 1929, he began his career as a composer by setting his own lyrics to music in the Rast makam (mode) and Turkish aksak rhythm, with the song "Ela gözlüm sana billah can mı dayanır?" (My hazel-eyed beloved, can my soul withstand you?) He meticulously adhered to the song form of the neoclassical period in his compositions. Sadi Hoşses enriched our music with a rich repertoire of modes, and many of his songs remain fresh and continue to embellish the repertoire of vocalists. He worked for 30 years at Istanbul and Ankara Radio stations. At Ankara Radio, he served as a vocal artist, assistant conductor, choir conductor, and repertoire coach. In 1987, he became the choir conductor of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Classical Turkish Music Choir. He was deeply beloved in Izmir, where a bust was erected in his honor by Karşıyaka Municipality. Sadi Hoşses passed away on July 3, 1994, in Istanbul and was laid to rest in the Soğukkuyu Cemetery in Izmir.

Turkish Lyrics

Hicranı açmıştır sinede yare,
Zavallı gönlümün neş'esi kara,
Talihin zulmeti yol vermez yara,

English Translation

Longing has opened a wound in the heart,
The joy of my poor heart has turned dark,
Fate's darkness does not allow for the beloved,
My fortune is dark, the rose is dark, the hyacinth is dark.

Be patient, my heart, one day this longing will end,
The pains endured will one day pass.

Night has fallen upon the nightingale for a single rose,
My chest is filled with wounds like eyes,
This affliction cannot be cured, it breaks me into pieces,
No one knows the remedy for my pain

Be patient, my heart, one day this longing will end,
The pains endured will one day pass.
This affliction cannot be cured by money,
No one knows the remedy for my pain.

Be patient, my heart, one day this longing will end,
The pains endured will one day pass.
