Farm Messnerhof - Free range pigs from South Tyrol

This is farm Messnerhof in Val di Vizze/Pfitsch. Farmer Max keeps pigs of the breeds Duroc and Schwäbisch Hällische in free range for us. Both are very old and robust breeds and are well suited for this method of farming husbandry. The animals have free access to the outside area, but can also stay in the stable if required.
Even though it rained the day before the video shooting and the ground was therefore very soft, the pigs love to wallow in the mud. The wallowing fulfils an important purpose of cleanliness and the regulation of body temperature.

I live in Southern Minnesota. Lots of pig farms. seen some with 1.000 pigs. Well fed and watered. And go to the slaughter house in Worthington Hormel plant. 7k pigs get butchered a day. ribs. loins pork chops. pork steak. pork ribs. Smoked ham. sausage. pork but roast. stomach gets made into bacon. Those pig farmers make lots of money. Seen new born piglets. go to the nursey barn with there mother once there 4 weeks old. There is no shortage of pork. Minnesota hog farmers work very hard to have food on familys tables all around the United States.
