Rather than spend part of that time learning Python, why not learn some readily available Python / Network related code first, and consider what may actually exist in the real world. I have kept the code example local to the host pc, but similar code will work on a network to collect ip address information. See also : paramiko/netmiko.

*Note : If your employer will happily pay for you to study Cisco DevNet then certainly take advantage of that, you will learn valuable skills, including Python, API, OOP.
