What’s wonderful about that move and that type of move at the end of a season is the players around you may not even realize how much control you take when making that move.

I was so wishing for Richard to be on Season 40. I called him the winner of season 1 after the first few episodes and he proved me right. Really missing him in Season 40. The show just hasn’t been the same for years. But I can’t stop watching. Family tradition.

It was the biggest game winning move of season 1

One interesting thing in this move which is not said is how you were forced to "give up" in order to win.

I mean i know it's not a real "give up" because the game is about playing the best game on 39 days and not winning last challenge (being a french fan of the french version of the show, our contestants still have a lot to learn, because they often give the win to the winner of the final immunity challenge).

However "giving up" like this was brillant, because it's so counter intuitive, but it was also the only option for you to win the game. Like you said, if you win the challenge and take Kelly, you lose Rudy's vote and the game on one side. On the other side Rudy was on paper more popular than you and had the win in his bag (who wouldn't vote for the 72 years guy who beats all the odds by being here at the final 2 without backstabbing anyone, especially at this era of the show ?).

In theory you have your hand on one million dollars, and knowing myself in your shoes, i don't think i would have been able to just "let it go" (thinking how me and my loved ones would be disappointed if i lost 1 million dollars by giving up), i would have stayed on that thing for 24 hours if needed (which would have been a big mistake). So having the wisdom, and the courage to know when you have to "let it go" to win the game was brillant.

I almost never comment videos, but this move (and the result after it) was probably why the american version is what it is currently. Great gamble, great reward, great player.

Since the first year when this challenge happened, I thought it was such a brilliant move by Richard for exactly the reasons he said in this video. It was so simple but he was exactly right that either of them had no choice to but to bring him. It was genius

Could you address this? The reason I don't think you would do great in a "Winners" or "Legends" season is simply the same reason Rob, Sandra and Parvati all just went out this season. They are huge threats. The same reason Russell got voted out early both in S22 and in Australian Survivor. I'd like to know how these major threats could possibly win this game for that reason.

Here we are at season 40 and this still holds as the most iconic strategic move in my eyes.
You can say that Burnett created Survivor tv show and Hatch created survivor the game with creating the alliance and quitting final immunity. Not that Rich would need any more ass kissing he can do it himself :)))
But for instance Mr Probst still doesnt get that I think.
