Inside the Tesla Battery

A better take on my Tesla battery video. I wasn't happy with the previous video I did on the Tesla battery so I decided to redo it with better graphics.

I should also mention that in my previous video about the battery I used a couple of images from wk057 and I forgot to give attribution so he filed a copyright claim and it clobbered the video, that's why you can't see it anymore. I'm truly sorry for missing the attribution. I tried reaching out to him but he's not responded.

Anyhow, enjoy!

Great channel! I love the video feeds as well. Would love to see more on the electric motors. Especially intrigued by the power and size of their motor. I would like to learn more.

You did an awesome job on this video! I really enjoyed it!
I work for the Tesla (Gigafactory).
Lots of cools stuff there. Lots of brilliant ideas. The future is changing... for the better.

Thank you for the nice video. What software do you use for your diagrams?

I mentioned it in your other video but you're voice volume is too low when recording. Yes we can increase our speakers, but compared to regular YouTuber's, your voice recording volume is much much lower than the norm. Just saying it makes for a better sounding & quality video. Another than that great video!

Apparently Tesla is going with a *21*70 cell, as reported by Electrek today, July 29, 2016. Quote:

Two of the permits mention the new ‘2170’ battery cell format Tesla and Panasonic plan to manufacture. It was previously thought to be a ‘20700’ cell format based on previous statement by Tesla official, but we learned at the Gigafactory press event this week that they actually changed the size to 21mm diameter and a 70mm height – so now it’s ‘2170’.

intumescent coatings expand and char when exposed to flame. Would this cause the battery case to split if a cell shorted out?

Great explanation! Please explain how other systems in the Tesla work too. For example, the heating and air conditioning systems. Can the air conditioner be used in reverse to heat the cabin, like a heat pump? Thank you so much and happy 240th birthday to the Declaration of Independence in the USA! When is Canadian Independence Day?

I can see how using 18650's makes sense from Tesla's perspective, but it seems to me that a lot of space is wasted by putting round batteries next to each other. Surely a prismatic cell would be the way to go to get the size and weight (and therefore cost) down even more. A prismatic cell would also have more consistent cooling properties.

Do you know how I can get my hands on some of those batteries? I love the reaction some people have when I ask them "do they know how big the Tesla battery is?" I'd like to hold up an actual battery. They are usually incredulous that they're so small.

Why the name change and what does it stand for?

Surface cooling causes accelerated degradation compared to tab cooling then why is it used in Tesla battery packs ?

Blank cells seems like a stupid idea since you have to carry around the dead weight. Why not just leave out a whole module?

Just found this video for the first I'm noticing more and more people trash-talking tesla and other elctric cars, saying the batteries are just as bad for climate change as a gasoline car. of june 2017, I think, I believe, more recycling facilities are being built, but I think we're going to have to do much more in this area....and MUCH more messaging in the face of the criticism.

what do you think will be the long term effect, if any, of the incredibly misleading media reports on the tesla autopilot crash?
