Trying to FIX a Faulty PlayStation VR Headset (PSVR)

Hi, this video shows me attempting to repair a PlayStation VR headset that does not display and doesn't have audio. I bought it from eBay for £20. If you want to watch a shorter version of this video then please see my other 13 minute video.
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things.
I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series.
Many thanks, Vince.

A beautiful fix mate, kudo’s for fiddling around with those Tiny wires without damaging more of them.

JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS if it was not for enjoying and watching your videos lately, I would not have not bothered fixing a tablet today that would normally go in the bin and had considerable value so keep doing what you do and thanks again awesome channel

I watched the video closely. When you gradually eliminated damage and finally found a broken cable, I knew you might be able to fix the problem. I was glad I was right. you are an inspiration and a source of information for me. Even though I am a stranger and have to watch a video with subtitles, it is a lot of fun for me.

By just looking at the views from each version, you will get a sense that people love to see you try your best, and not just the result.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much for this video, I got the time today to look at our faulty VR and it had cables broken in exactly the same place, albeit on the power cable. Repaired them, all working and my 2 boys are over the moon. Without seeing this video I'd have likely paid out £100 for a repair service! Credit to you and happy new year!

Congratulations on fixing it! Even though I like fixing stuff just like you, I'm preety sure my patience would have run out quickly on a project like this, and I would have ended up just throwing it out of a window out of frustration. You have A LOT of patience. :D

I had a faulty one given to me, screen was black but when you moved a certain part of the cable that runs from the headset it would come on and give green lines. Stripped the cable back and found the shielding had been some how damaged, replaced the shielding and hey presto it worked perfectly and I'd scored a complete ps4 vr system for free... Like you I just enjoy fixing things and have no formal training.. Keep up the good work 🙏🏻

I'm glad that I have found this. Got a PSVR V2 with a cut cable and needed to find which cable connected to which. The diagram will help a lot.

Didn’t expect you’d read my post about PSVR, it’s great to see you progress in troubleshooting. The issue with your dishwasher in particular were interesting.

Edit:

A tip, a useful tool known as ”tonal generator” (rough translation from Swedish) can help you find broken leads. At one end you generate the tone (an EM field is generated) and the 2nd part of the tool you sweep/hover over the cable and follow along the chord until the tone stops - and voila, you’ve found where the continuity stops.
