Since people are asking: To preface: they were true american indians (Oglala Sioux) who grew up wild and often partied hard and got into trouble with the law. The story goes my grandfather (35 y/o) along with his brother and cousin got hammered and decided to test fate in the front lawn. With a 6 chamber revolver, his cousin went first and put the gun under his chin and fired. blank. His brother went second and aimed it at his heart and fired. blank. My grandfather went third and aimed at the side of his head and fired. Shot rang out and that was that. Everyone in the house, including my then 5 yr old mother, came out and witnessed the scene. Who knows if they would've kept playing if my grandfather had fired a third blank. I learned this was how he died at an early age, but it wasn't until my early 20s I decided to ask my grandmother about the details. He was a good man who took care of his family and friends. He had a career in upholstery and notably did up Neil Youngs tour bus at the time. Just like the rest of us he might have taken things a bit too far from time to time, only he didnt have the chance to learn from this mistake. Hes buried in the next city over. i'll go visit him from time to time when im in the area.
