What is an Android launcher and why do people use them?

Hey Linus, gotta say I tried out Aviate after NCIX's video, and it's awesome. I got used to it in minutes after using GO Launcher for about 1.5 years since I got my Nexus 4. It's insanely intuitive and easy to use, I'd really recommend ANYONE who has an Android phone, doesn't matter if you're happy with your current UI, to try it. Incredible experience, and Yahoo's definitely got it right.

Waitwaitwait Linus, hold on there. Even though I fully agree, that _some_ manufacturer overlays on Android are awful, limited and all in all bloatware, one does *not* simply apply these terms to HTC's Sense. Say what you want about the design (I like it, you might not, whatever), Sense actually expands the functionality of Android OS and does *not* cut anything back or otherwise limit your experience with it - everything Google made is there, with smaller and bigger additions here and there. Take the quick toggles, for example. Did Google allow you to customize the available tiles and their layout? Nah. HTC does. And they do so without breaking the whole layout of Android's UI, just changing the visual theme a bit.

I've been using jailbreak for 6 years now from 3g iPhone to iPhone 5 !!

I got a launcher from Microsoft (go figure) on my Samsung Galaxy S6, and I really quite like it. I like it more than Samsung TouchWiz.

I have the Nova Launcher.
It's pretty awesome, way better then the default LG thing. The best feature is the possibility of using iconpacks, so I can have these amazing circle flat icons from Numix and they look really good especially next to the LG's circle unlock animation, which I hate, but couldn't get around it.

My favorite launcher is CM Launcher. This launcher makes everything so clean, crisp, and intuitive. You can automatically alphabetize all of your apps and the launcher will also use an algorithm that will help your phone keep as much of the CPU available to make multitasking, gaming, watching videos, etc much smoother. This algorithm helps with battery life, phone temperature, phone speed, etc. I love this Launcher.

With Samsung and their 'Samsung Themes' menu it lets you download themes for your Samsung device that supports Samsung themes. So if you don't like Samsung's default theme, you could just go and download one from the Samsung themes menu. Edit: I got a super cool blue dragon theme for my Samsung device. From the Samsung themes app.

Hell yeah Nova Launcher! It truly makes my S6 my own. I love how it doesn't interfere with things like double tap the home button to launch the camera or multitasking, yet completely changes my home screen

Have been using this for about a week and love it. Uses a bit more battery but not much. Other complaint is the lack of main page widget placement options everything else is wonderful. Almost forgot the odd Transparent slip-up, the swipe up is not transparent unlike the rest of the menus.

In Norway, Company are not alowed to take away the warranty on the hardware if you do something with the software as long as it does not overheat the phone or something. the warranty is also minimum 2 years.

I tried many launchers but got bored from all of them. I've recently discovered Aviate launcher and I'm very pleased with the way it works.
