About the author of the book:
Dr Pedram Khosronejad is Farzaneh Family Chair and Associate Director for Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies Program (IPGS) at the Oklahoma State University and also associated member of Groupe Societes, Religions, Laicites, CNRS-Paris, France. He obtained his PhD at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. His research interests include cultural and social anthropology, the anthropology of death and dying, visual anthropology, visual piety, devotional artefacts, and religious material culture, with a particular interest in Iran, Persianate societies and the Islamic world.

Mamalik-i Mahrusa "(Qajar) On the Ethnic Composition of the Cossack Brigade: Unlike the rest of the army, the brigade is paid regularly. The classes given by the soldier are as follows: Persians. .
Nomads, Kurds and Turks from [South] Azerbaijan and Qazvin. 15% of them are collected. The remaining 75% is collected from nomadic (ie, Turkic) tribes living around the cities of Tehran and Qazvin, and especially from the Baghdad branch of the Shahsevan (Turks) tribes. Among them, local officers are influential people from their own tribes, and each has its own community.
