Rivian feels dang promising.

I've been impressed by how dynamic they've been to keep the company alive. I appreciate what—from the outside at least—appears to be a stable and rational management style. (Which gives me the impression that they will continue to be so impressively dynamic.)

Would be great to see both companies bring prices down to more affordable levels.

Financially, Rivian is quickly becoming bullet proof. With Amazon and VW as major investors, but also customers, that's sales revenue too. I am damn sure there are things that VW can help Rivian with on the productioneering side. Sales outlets too?

I said this a while back but the moment Rivian partners with another huge company they're locked in. They're doing such a good job on their own, with any help I can tell they're very promising.

Yes! Thanks for noticing. Just another indication of the excellent leadership team and technical team Rivian has, along with their innovative approach to automotive systems. They have demonstrated over and over that they are thought and implementation leaders in BEV design, development, production, and brand management. There's no doubt they will continue to exhibit these characteristics.

Volkswagen is going to make a new Scout suv. The Scout may be a rivian with a differnt body on it.

To me, Rivian is Tesla with nicer vehicles and without Elon and his bullshit. If there is an EV company I can get behind, it is this one.

Hope Rivian uses this to accelerate and scale R2 & R3.

VW has the *Scout* brand... I bed they will be badge engineered Rivians... I was worried Rivian was not going to survive long enough to build the R3... but if they can be co-dev'd with VW... wow... that sounds like it could happen.

This validates RIVn’s efforts to reduce costs. Of course Volkswagen wouldn’t have invested or promised RIVN if the COGS were way higher

My guess on that covered up R1 platform/price point is a Jeep body style vehicle akin to a Wrangler. Shorter wheel base than the R1S and R1T and even more off-road oriented. There's room for it in the market, and a pretty clear demand for them given the popularity of the Wrangler and Bronco. It also fits the Rivian Lifestyle brand better than an elongated Suburban style rig. But who

Although this seems like a relatively minor partnership at first glance, there are some significant potential synergies here. VW badly needs a partner for their Scout start up and Rivian could provide a lot of the platform development. It wouldn't surprise me if Rivian finally moves ahead with their Georgia factory plans which could also produce Scout models. Non-union factory!

Wow, definitely didn't see this coming. I guess it makes some sense, since VW and Rivian target different market segments (not direct competitors).

I never thought it would be VW. I was thinking Honda would be a good fit for EV vehicles. Rivian could do the square look and Honda could do a rounded EV look, off the same Rivian platform. But the software issue is important also. VW needs help because of the many EV software issues it has had. If Rivian can solve that, they may partner on some EVs also. The Scout brand would have been a perfect partnership for Rivian to build at its new future plant in GA. They could share platforms with different EV looks to save cost.

Too bad almost their stock has almost entirely pulled back from it's high at $18 back down to $13/share. I don't understand why people hate Rivian so much. I love them. I support them. I've sat in their vehicles and they are a QUALITY PRODUCT. Who f*cking cares what a market report says. Let's hope they succeed.

I want them to survive. And I want one. But I am still so disappointed with how Rivian really blew the advantage they had to watching Tesla's production experiences for 8 years on the sideline. They seemed to have ignored battery Innovations, Battery plant building, Money issues (Covid supply lines and crazy inflation/gouging not withstanding.) Ford dropped out, will VW? Who knows. The cost of these vehicles for most consumers is prohibitive. So was the model S, initially, I know. But how Tesla survived is the lesson here. So as I said, I want Rivian to survive it all.

The stock experts were thinking Rivian was going to need money and assuming they would issue more stock to get it. So VW investing helps, pushing out the timeline. That bumps the stock price until the next Fox Business headline.

When you were saying about the stock market being based on people's perceptions more than anything else is very correct. If people were being a little more objective rivian stocks should be soaring on this news. They've already partnered with Amazon to make all of their electric final mile delivery or whatever they call it, to build all their vehicles and have built a bunch of electric infrastructure at their distribution centers. Now 5 billion from Volkswagen...
