Is it possible to have Nostalgia for a game you've only played this Year?

YES says the man in Rapture.

No gods, no kings... only Andrew Ryan and his planet-sized ego

Back in 07', this blew my mind. The soundtrack, the storytelling, the visuals were groundbreaking! Then you switch over to COD and listen to Good times.

What's best about this game: how it doesn't simply demonize Ryan. You arrive in rapture, he is well over the edge, but all of it is a result both of his fallibility as a human (paranoia, pride and of course greed) and external factors, namely Atlas, an incarnation of everything he hated about the surface. In the end, Ryan became the villain because at first he ignored the obvious problems brewing under the surface (pun intended) and, once they were obvious, as a way to solve them, he convinced himself that his ideals were consistent with a technocatic dictatorship and that abusing basic human rights was a price worth paying to "save his city".

Easily the geatest villain in video game history, imo.

The opening to this game is so perfect for a number of reasons.
You get an uplifting speech, shilling this city as a utopia of art and culture, of capitalistic progress. Bright neon signs plastered over tall buildings, advertising fine cigars, wine, and plasmids. There are even a few big daddies visible, giving you the sense that the city is still populated.
But then you arrive, and that pretense falls apart completely. A man gets gutted, the entrance is lined with abandoned briefcases and protest signs, the metal artwork is rusting and the pipes are buckling, and every resident is warped and hostile.
It gives you a sense of comfort and rips that comfort away, all while making you wonder just what happened to this city.

How is this not recognized as one of the greatest voice acting performances of all time? Voice actors didn't get the recognition they deserved back then and that's a shame.

It was definitely not a coincidence that they cast Armin Shimerman who played Quark of Ferenghi in DS9, a race who prized business and profit above all else, to voice Andrew Ryan. I recognised his voice after being a fan of DS9 when I was young. Great casting, not only does it tie in with both characters in terms of their profiles, but the voice acting and delivery by Shimerman is top draw, along with practically all the voice acting in this game.

I just like how even though everyone's either dead of a splicer, the big daddies are still working on trying to keep rapture from flooding and dealing with splicers and intruders. And if course protecting the little sisters

They've done objectivism, religion, and patriotism/religion. I really wish there was another Bioshock game about communism/collectivism.

A man creates. A man builds.

A parasite takes and demands "where's my share".

Peak music, peak atmosphere, peak visuals, peak story.

The philosophy of objectivism presented in this game is very well done i love it so much. I love that the games were built around a real philosophy (objectivism or American exceptionalism) and then had real science on top of it (gene splicing or quantum mechanics)

I am Andrew Ryan, and I am here to ask you a question.

Is a man not entitled to a 6ft big tiddy tomboy gf?

“No” says the man on Twitter, “she is clearly a transgender.”

“No” says the man on Reddit, “it is a statistical improbability.”

“No” says the man on 4chan, “flat is justice.”

I rejected those answers, instead I chose something different, I chose to find 6ft big tiddy tomboy gf.

Playing through this master piece again, but with my wife who has never played it, she is loving everything about it so far, and this speech made her set her phone down, and get into this world.

i love this cause on the surface it makes perfect sense, but when you see ryans views put into practice you see how some of the things he brushed aside might be neccesary in some ways.
