Wow I had no idea Katie's "deaf accent" wasn't real. It's also amazing that they incorporated a character like Noah to explain Ménière's disease which is what she actually has. I wonder what that was like for her to have another actor portray her real life struggle.

I have just started this show because I am learning sign language and I can't stop watching it. Thanks to my classes I can see a lot of familiar vocabulary used throughout the show and I get excited lol. I am studying to be a interpreter, not because of this show but because I grew to love the language before I even knew about switched at birth. But I do think it is an amazing show that is a wonderful way to introduce people about sign language and hopefully get people interested in learning this beautiful language

Omgg! I've always wondered how her real voice was ! I'm just so use to hearing her deaf accent :) she's still beautiful both of them and hopefully 7 seasons !

She has Ménière's disease, a degenerative inner ear disorder, the symptoms of which include fluctuating hearing loss and vertigo; both her father and older sister have Ménière's disease also. It didn't affect her during childhood, that is why she speaks so well
