If you want a burning laser, the best places to look are in Blue-ray BURNERS. The 16x ones are the best from what I've read. I used a Blue-Ray READER in my video so it didn't have that much power.

Most lasers you will find will want to be powered by 2.5 volts at 100 milliamps or so, but that varies with the laser you are working with. With Blu-Ray lasers you could expect to power them up to 7 volts and 400 milliamps. Generally, I shoot for 3 volts at 300 milliamps for my test circuit and then go from there.

I suggest you to use the laser housing 12mm. It easier to mount laser diode.

More like a 405nm violet, visible laser

my 808 nm laser is visible though it is very faint because our eyes have such a low sensitivity to IR though it is visible in bright sources and lower wavelengths. The diodes used in green lasers are 808 you can make one by removing the crystal that converts it into green light. UV is similar and looks like a faint blue I have heard.

dvd recorders is well known to contain powerfull enough diodes to burn
