Daylilies are some of the easiest perennials you can grow. Most people grow them in the landscape, but they can also be grown in containers.

Growing daylilies in containers is a a bit unconventional, but a great choice if you love daylilies and don't have a ton of outdoor space or would like some color on a deck or patio.

But—although daylilies are pretty carefree in the garden, there are a few things to keep in mind in order to be successful with daylilies in containers.

In this video, Ken Oakes discusses how to choose the right container for your daylilies, what you need to consider when selecting daylilies to plant in containers, how to plant in containers, and what to do in order to keep your container daylilies thriving!

ABOUT US:
Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that's been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

.............................
FARM-FRESH TO YOU!
When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and produce more blooms quicker.

All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

Was so happy to find this video. I had no idea daylillys would grow in pots. This is going to be a beautiful addition to my patio this year. And I love the idea of having the option to move them from year to year. A great way to fill in the gaps as my other plants fill in. Thanks for all the info!!

I live in Minnesota and have 2 questions. 1st: Would daylilies have a difficult time being repotted annually? I like to have different plant combinations in pots from year to year. 2nd: I have dormant daylilies in the landscape. Would planting daylilies, planted in landscaping pots, for the winter (for easier digging up in spring) be alright? Would the plastic create freezing issues for the roots? I do realize the roots do freeze up here over winter. Thanks, in advance.

Up here in the Pacific NW I had a daylily in an 18" plastic pot slipped into a 22" clay pot for the last 3 years. I stuffed wood excelsior into the void between the 2 pots for insulation. Keeps roots from freezing in winter and burning in summer. Soil stays moist longer this way. Just transplanted into garden 4 weeks ago.

I put Becky Lynn in a pot and she never bloomed. I saw one of your videos and realized that the pot was too small! I fixed the problem and found out that she’s a gorgeous bloomer. Thanks again Ken 😁‼️

When potting the day lilys in pots, over winter put in garage should they get anything wrapped around them to help insulate and should they be watered? Thank you. I did order from you looking forward to that delivery.

I live in Arizona and have blooms but the heat comes and I’ve moved them to the shady areas. My question is will they just burn up and die in heat?? I know nothing lives here on walls that face the afternoon sun but how much heat can they really take??

It would have been good to see what a day lily looks like in a pot where the plant is larger and maybe a couple of just saying!!
